It’s too overpriced

For same money you can get similar houses on the Cape and the Cape is a lot nicer

Main benefit of no state taxes goes away when you’re retired too

Why is the Cape nicer? I’ve been there a couple times and it’s ok but doesn’t really have the same vibe.

What vibe are you looking for?

Portsmouth is like a touristy town you go for a day trip. But at the end of the day it's New Hampshire.

Parts of Cape i was thinking of are Dennis, Brewster, Orleans. Low key, lots of locals and community, it's not tourists. Tons of nature around, beaches obviously, etc. Ppl are very shitlib, but in a hippy 70/80/90s naive lib way.

Isn’t the Cape kinda economically depressed and doped up with heroin though? Not sure I’d really mesh with the locals, at least in Portsmouth they are expecting you to be some monied faggot from NY or CT.

The south part is. I dont even go there. It was hit hard by "covid" i think, because it has a ton of motels. The north side is all SFHs, so it was fine. Last year we went to Chatham and drove through south part (Harwich, Yarmouth) and it was depressing as fuck.

The cities I mentioned + Eastham + Wellfleet are 180.

you mean that harwich and yarmouth are shitty? because chatham is probably the nicest town on the cape.

Yea. Chatham is super nice, but its very isolated. Immediately once you exit it, even South Chatham (look on the map, its not where you probably think it is) is depressing. And then it gets worse from there.

except for the fancier parts and purely vacation home areas, i don't think the cape feels really shitlib at all. lots of pickup trucks and trump flags and shit.

i understand that they vote blue overwhelmingly and all that but it doesn't feel depressingly liberal (at least not when compared to UMC boston suburbs).

i dunno, i dont really interact w ppl much there, aside from seeing ppl at restaurants. they had really draconian mask policies even well after covid hysteria largely died down in Boston.

Many blm and "in this house we.." signs etc, but that just means theyre really white areas lol

Rented houses in Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Chatham. But ive been most other parts of the cape. All during late spring, summer, or September. Admittedly i dont have experience w what its like in offseason/winter.

if you only spend time at lesbian coffee shops or walking down main streets it all feels super liberal.

but hit up some summer league baseball games or go to a normal bar/restaurant in october and you'll feel like you're in are country.

cape obviously has better options for a vacation home, but there is no place on cape cod that's like portsmouth. the closest is what, hyannis (shithole)?

Portsmouth is a small city and the Cape is a collection of towns and vacation homes. They’re not rated on the same scale. And Portsmouth has shit to do in the winter and a good year-round population, whereas Cape is gonna be months indoors alone waiting for summer to return.
