1. Airman - mostly involves jumping and you can take him out with the regular gun. get item #2

2. Metalman - also not a tough level. metal blade pwns in general and is good to have early

3. Bubbleman - metal blade makes it easy

4. Heatman - item #2 to bypass the lava and bubble gun to take out the boss

5. Flashman - boss is a faggot and goes down with like 3 metal blade hits. Get time stopper

6. Quickman - level isn't hard with the time stopper

7. Woodman - not a hard level and I think it's the only one the heat gun kind of makes sense

8. Crashman - leaf shield from woodman helps out a bunch with this one.

Metal Man, Flash Man, and Air Man are the easier stages/bosses to beat with an arm cannon and no etanks or other powerups. Kill one and go from there.

Crash Man and Quick Man (also maybe heat man) are the hardest bosses to beat with an arm cannon. Heat Man's stage is hard without rush jet and other gadgets, although I've done a full disappearing block run.
