that is, from march 2004 to about august 2026. 22 years
soon i'll have the remaining 90 days, but just working on realtime updating of the search engine first.
two types of search:
infix (substring): "jew" matches "jew", "jewish", "jewed". won't match "bejeweled" - only works with suffixes
whole-word / exact match: "jew" matches only "jew". check the box for this one.
searches have per-user quotas per minute, hour and day because it was a huge source of server strain in the past, but the new search engine is located on a separate box on a server specifically optimized for text search. and i doubt you'll be reaching those caps.
paging through results of a search does not count as another search. i created a little system to retain the results for an hour, so 6 or 7 page clicks through the results don't count as separate searches.
old threads going back to 2004 are all in. now i'm working on making old threads bumpable and replyable.

Indexing is definitely key. Always has been
Funny thing is that what was slowing things down wasn't the indexing, because I had spent so much time trying to perfect the indexing. It was bad architecture.
