He was mocked because TV shows were written by comedians, and comedians were annoyed by how successful he is.
Imagine you're Larry David or Louis CK or Norm, and you're trying to craft these great jokes that say something about life, and then the guy before you pulls out a bag with 30 dumb props that make everyone aged eight to eighty laugh.
Then you have to follow him crushing with prop toilet seats with you describing your blind date.
