If you have “enough” savings.

Chickens, cattle, hens, and a huge garden that will provide for a dozen people several times over.

And by you I mean me.

Much like when people think they want to use their savings to buy a restaurant should work at one first, you should try working on a farm for a planting & harvesting season before jumping to buying one. You'll quickly appreciate your screens.

False, I made my $$$ in law and retired early, living a life of idle luxury. The keyword there is "idle," farm life sucks. Seriously, take a sabbatical from the job you have now and live the farm life for a year. Doubt you even last a season.

where i live tomatoes are about $3. some quick research tells me each tomato has ~200 seeds and each tomato plant produces about 25 tomatoes. assuming you’re able to sell them for $2 each (wholesale), you should have a gross margin of 99.97%. obviously i’m not factoring in op’s time and effort, but with that kind of profitability he should be able to hire some folks to do all the hard labor.

the real question is why aren’t we all doing this?

You could do a law farm. This is what I did. I'm more of a full time law during the day and I do the farming part in the evening, and farming stuff during the day on weekends if I'm not doing law stuff. It's been very therapeutic and I've never been happier. And I'm learning a lot about the law and about the land at the same time.
