cucumbers i'm a few rounds in for a team that exclusively mob programs, thoughts? i actually did majority mob programming workdays for a few years at a past company and enjoyed it and had good results.
Being forced to work that closely with coder autists seems unpleasant unless you yourself are sufficiently autistic (I'm not, which is why I moved into management). Also seems like an obsolete approach; are you all just going to sit in silence most of the time, waiting for Claude to tell you why the entire "mob" was wrong?
i'm not autistic but i've found that companies/teams who are very collaborative only hire people who are pleasant to work with.
cq about what it's like now. i asked in today's interview how they use AI day-to-day and all the interviewer said is that they all have Claude Code and can use it however they want.
Sounds like a nightmare, at least to me. "Very collaborative" means lots of meetings, more hours worked, and less time to just fuck around at work.
Also sounds like this company is behind the curve in terms of AI adoption. Here's how coding is done at a typical SF startup that's fully bought into AI: you rarely write code yourself; you have one LLM plan out the code you need written, then another model writes the actual code based on that plan, then several other models review and iterate on that code for you, then multiple models review your PR and fix test failures, and then at least one model tries to fix production incidents, etc. You're essentially guiding multiple LLMs to iterate on what starts as AI slop into polished code; the latest LLMs are good enough at coding to do this.
Apologies if what I wrote out was too obvious. This is just another sign that I hate coding, don't pay all that much attention to the industry, don't really care about AI, don't check the news, etc. This is just how my friend described his typical coding workflow at his "cool" SF startup; I've never actually done this myself. My company is nowhere near this level of AI integration. I don't care about any of this at all, really. I just get paid significantly more than the ICs.
lol 180. yeah i've encountered plenty of companies in my job search that do what you describe. one dinged me for not using AI enough in the live coding exercise (just used GitHub Copilot in my IDE but ig they wanted me to me have it do the whole thing for me)
