even if they are a good idea the execution is so bad that they are going to do nothing but hurt the economy. trump has to change course on this imo. stick to immigration and purging libs from the government.

it's the biggest cudgel available and makes the likelihood of a meaningful realignment along lines of economic nationalism and repatriation of US manufacturing/industry far more likely than whatever half-measures you prefer.
you guys are just like the Keynes fags in the early 80s snarkily predicting Reaganomics would cause mass starvation. you're not as smart as you think you are.
economic patriots are in control.

This is like if a schizo escapes from the asylum, gets drunk, and drives a tractor trailer over a cliff, and bystanders say, it's not necessarily that all trucking is bad, but I wish he had taken a different approach.

did he even talk about tariffs and trade wars during his first term? I recall this kind of talk in the '24 campaign, but he says a lot of wild shit and then drops it completely.
his single biggest bragging point after his term was the economy he had created before covid. seems really, really strange that he's deaf now to what is happening.
is there someone on his team that is generating these ideas? some monomaniacal tariff guy? how did this become such a central component of his plan, when he was given a tremendous mandate to 1) deport like crazy, and 2) return economy to 2017-2020 status.

you have a situation in which
1. foreign companies desperately need access to US markets to survive
2. these same countries engage in their own protectionism by steeply tariffing US imports to keep US goods out
seems like the US is indeed getting ripped off and there is room for a 'correction' whose outcome is likely to be favorable to us.

gpt:
Canada has historically imposed tariffs on certain American goods while the U.S. did not always have reciprocal tariffs on Canadian goods. Here are some notable examples:
Dairy Products
Canada has high tariffs on U.S. dairy imports, particularly on milk, cheese, and butter.
Tariffs can reach up to 270% on some dairy products due to Canada's supply management system, which protects domestic producers.
The U.S. did not have equivalent tariffs on Canadian dairy before the USMCA trade agreement (though it later negotiated limited market access for American dairy).
Poultry & Eggs
Canada imposes tariffs of up to 238% on American poultry and up to 293% on eggs to protect its domestic market.
The U.S. does not impose equivalent tariffs on Canadian poultry or eggs, relying instead on quota-based restrictions.
Wine & Spirits
Canada has provincial markups and tariffs on U.S. wines, particularly in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec, where local regulations favor domestic wine producers.
The U.S. does not have an equivalent tariff on Canadian wine.
Automobiles (Historical)
Before USMCA, Canada had tariffs on imported American-made cars if they did not meet domestic content requirements.
The U.S. generally allowed duty-free entry of Canadian cars under pre-existing trade agreements.
Processed Food & Beverages
Certain processed food products, like snack foods and frozen meals, faced Canadian tariffs, while the U.S. generally allowed them tariff-free.

Oh perfect, the stupidest moron on the site is here. Most of those literally say "HISTORICAL", retard, as in they aren't in place and haven't been for years. Canada tariffs a small number of agricultural goods to protect its small family farms and prevent rural decay as well as domestic supply of essential foodstuffs, whereas the US gets its food from soul destroying factory farms run by Cargill. This is one of the reasons avian flu didn't affect the Canadian egg market like the US egg market, because small farms don't spread disease as readily. Canada has to protect the US flooding its market with cheap factory farmed food. Frankly, the US should follow suit and start promoting and protecting small family farms as well, rather than subsidizing factory farms.
The US exports almost 3x dairy to Canada as the other way around, meaning the US is "winning" the dairy trade. Canadian tariffs on dairy kick in above a certain threshold, and that threshold has never been exceeded so tariffs have never been applied on US dairy. The entire dairy trade between the two countries is less than a billion dollars per year and the same for the poultry trade. It's miniscule.
Otherwise the US and Canada have completely free trade. That's what the "FT" in NAFTA means, dumbass. Why would the two countries not have free and fair trade? How would that have come about? These things get negotiated constantly under many different administrations and both countries are signatories to the World Trade Organization. Your intuition is that Trump really "discovered" that thousands of people got it wrong for thirty years and Canada was "ripping off" the US somehow by tariffing less than a billion dollars of trade (but the tariffs were never even applied) and nobody on the American side noticed or did anything about it? Why would you have a strong opinion when you're completely uninformed? Do you ever think it's odd that if wine and cheese are the problem that Trump doesn't just negotiate or apply tariffs on those rather than a blanket 25% tariff on everything that then crashes the stock market?

Dude trump himself said that his first two months have been perfect. The fact that I/my employer have contributed $27k into my 401(k) and am down $30k is irrelevant as long as he says that these tariffs are part of that perfection.
