While a "hypo" traditionally refers to a made-up scenario, it is used for actual cases in the following ways:
Modifying Real Cases: A lawyer or professor may take an actual, litigated case and create a "hypo" that is a slight variation of it to explore how the outcome might change.
"Testing" an Actual Case: In litigation, attorneys use hypotheticals to "debug" their arguments, essentially running a "dry run" or simulation of a real case they are preparing.
