A plug-in hybrid means that you have an internal combustion engine and a transmission (both of which will eventually fail and be very costly to replace) not to mention dozens of other moving parts that can wear out. Electric engines have far fewer moving parts so they need much less maintenance. Even the brakes last longer due to regenerative breaking. There is zero reason to buy a plug-in hybrid unless you live in an apartment complex or park on the street or can't charge at home for some other reason.
