Rejecting Roman Catholicism, fine. Or rejecting claims about a personal God, sure. Thinking some questions are still unanswered, or even that some questions will probably never be answerable, okay.
But confronting these questions, e.g.
- I have consciousness and a personal self, that emerged some time in my life that I do not remember. How and why and from where and for what?
- I see certain things come to be and then cease to be. How did *anything* come to be, and when, and why, and for what?
- How can I not even imagine an alternative to the universe being, given that there most likely was a state affairs without it? Or, alternatively, if it just always was, how the fuck does that work?
Confronting these with a fixed, certain and universal claim: THERE IS NO GOD AND I KNOW IT.

but atheists are not neutral in practice, they are hostile. they encounter the questions I posed above, as everyone must, and then claim that god-answerers have the burden of proof. But god-answerers do not. The questions have the burden. They can be engaged in these ways:
1. Ignored 2. Answered with reference to a "god" agent 3. Determined to be unanswered, or unanswerable 4. answered foreclosing "god"
atheists are not compelled by 2, and then say 2 people have all the burden, so default is 4
its bad logic, bad thinking, and juvenile in its polemic
honest doubters should rest at 3, and this is in no way "atheism" by any meaningful def |
