Agreeing to package would have allowed dems to sweep border issue under the rug ("through Bidens leadership we got bipartisan support for toughest border legislation ever"). On foreign policy, this won't magically help Ukraine drive out Russia, but not passing it would have given Biden an excuse for mishandling the war. If the goal is to reduce the flow of illegals, it’s obviously a major blow. Dems will never agree to a package like that again, and the GOP will never have full control of government with sufficient margin to pass a package that aggressive.
I know the GOP exists solely as a vassal to inflate Donald’s ego, so this is the outcome most trumpenprole desire, but if you’re conservative or anti-immigration it’s not a great outcome.
