"Dog culture" in the US has gotten ridiculous

People freak the fuck out at dogs walking around neighborhoods by themselves these days (when I grew up in my UMC neighborhood, there were a bunch of dogs wandering around a lot and it was NBD). People yell at people for walking by with their dog "off leash," like actually yell, bitch about it on nextdoor, demonize owners doing this, etc. People spend thousands of dollars per year for "doggy day care" instead of just letting the dog sit inside the house while the people are gone (which people have done for thousands of years).
