Are of real conflict. We may be in a legitimately post-war era of humanity. No one can escalate because the consequences are too great. Aside from the fact this is greatest unambiguous strategic failure in American history and a national humiliation like nothing we've suffered before all within the span of 3 months, it will shape the future of all of humanity. This is the turning point where it is clear everyone will stop before the cliff. We might as well disarm and disband military at this point, there's nothing else for it to do. This was the dream of the United Nations. The system they built worked. We can never afford anything beyond police action in non-strategic countries anymore.

Not to sound like NSAM but I knew some people that worked in DC that were saying this 20 years ago with regard to US-China. There will never be another major war because the consequences are too great for both sides.

The end of history to quote Fukuyama.

The thing people aren't seeing is that this is really the end of nation state entirely. America is irrevocably done here.

But you notice they won't get any bigger and result in any real fundamental change to existing international order except relative strategic gains for major powers absorbing periphery states where they can. Evidently the wall of Israel's ambition is the border of Iran. And Ukraine for Russia. Maybe the Baltics. Maybe Finland. But no more than that.

My take is there's lessons learned from this operation. I don't think the US expected Iran's capacity to keep the straight closed, nor to keep its economy going and not cave in due to internal economic collapse. At the same time Iran knows the US has the capacity to come along and beat the crap out of it every now and then. And for all the bravado, they don't like that either. You run out of martyrs sooner or later.

I don't know what the immediate short term outcome will be but everyone is taking notes and long term strategic plans will be developed focused on finding alternatives to the straight. Am guessing the Saudis and Emiratis will build expensive underground oil pipes.

It is the greatest strategic failure in American history. Orders of magnitude greater than Vietnam or Afghanistan which had no real consequences, hence the reason they were fought in the first place and why Iran never was for decades despite our overwhelming military superiority. Military professionals and 8 other US Presidents understood the risks of failure, which this man currently in power never did or took the time to care to understand. But these are the situations when leadership actually matters. It takes a century of careful management and fateful luck to get to a position like the United States and only 60 days to destroy it. This short H1 2026 will reverberate in America's future forever. We are no longer the same country we we were from 1945 until this January. The genie can't be put back in the bottle and Trump may be assassinated over this out of spite by our shadow elite circles but of course that won't change the Rubicon of our disintegration

I should say that's if we actually stop here with whatever situation we're in and concessions we're giving to Iran. The other option and in the past only option would be full invasion and overthrow but that is unacceptable to China and other powers who will certainly enter the conflict. Both options are impossibilities as a nation but retreat and slow unravelling is what will happen. But ultimately there was no way around this. It was always going to happen and a world order system where this was always going to happen was never going to last anyways. So history cannot blame Trump for what happens to us but it will blame him for being uniquely inadequately prepared and unsuited for the task.

"It is the greatest strategic failure in American history. Orders of magnitude greater than Vietnam or Afghanistan which had no real consequences"

This is such an absurd statement. 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam. 13 have died in the Iran conflict. That's a ratio of 4,000 to 1.

The "consequences" of the Iran war are so non-existent a majority of Americans couldn't even tell you if the war was still happening or not.

with 13 deaths it’s far from clear that this even constitutes a “war” in the first place. we obviously did not and will not accomplish all of our policy goals in this clusterfuck. that’s probably providing limited comfort to the top ~20 irani decisionmakers who drove the brinksmanship from their side and who represent the obvious empathetic stand-ins for any rogue middleweight looking to make moves in the future. and the domestic blowback is less than minimal because trump’s opposition has been shrieking at maximum volume about everything from white house cfp hamburgers to twitter typos for over a decade now. any legitimate gripe they may have had here is completely wasted on an audience deafened and exhausted by their nonstop tds tantrums.

Agree in principle but don’t underestimate how stupid and forgetful everyone is now about history. If the Iran thing peters out and returns to status quo ante, Americans will forget and move on to the next thing. And I think turd world leaders already knew the US/West only drops bombs and runs away.

Sometimes. But the US still controls the Iraqi oil fund. The US dictates where Venezuelan oil goes. Nigeria is completely dependent on US investment now that they've gone all in with US companies. It's obvious the tradeoff Arab states have made. Once corporate interests are accounted for, why stay longer?

I don't think Iran was ever the real target. For better or worse this might be our first AI influenced war. DoW ran multiple simulations using multiple AI platforms. Each of them expected the SoH to be closed. They also predicted the IRGC could likely hold on for at a minimum 10 months. Obviously they didn't need AI to tell them this, but I think people assume we were caught flatfooted and that's not the case. They did not expect the effectiveness of the cheap drones and the Iranians were excellent and maximizing their effectiveness. But at the end of the day, even a couple billion in old aircraft lost was still well within tolerance.

From the looks of it, multiple operations now have been designed to curtail the Chinese. When experts say China is planning to make a play on Taiwan in 2027 it's not just that China is gearing up for an operation but similarly with Russia and Ukraine the Chinese see this as their last window of opportunity with population dwindling and their economy beginning to shrink relative to the US. The operation in Venezuela was the first, with Nigeria staggered next and Iran used to buttress the first two. Venezuelan oil was seen as too costly for investment. But the war in Iran quickly changed that equation. Keep in mind the US is in full control of Venezuelan energy production. Same in Nigeria. Each operation was done to squeeze Chinese reserves and push back any go date on Taiwan.

It's also worth mentioning, this is an arch that Trump designed. These plans have been on the books for years. The entire end goal is aligning the pieces on the chest board so that the US controls the next revolution of AI. AI is energy in, computation out. That's the currency of the future with dwindling populations around the globe. People look at world today and this this is the status quo. But we've already crossed the population Rubicon, it's just not immediately evident. That's also why we're sacrificing out position as a reserve currency betting on this future flip to compute being the new medium.

Iran, isreal, etc are really small components of an overall design on China. And to the Chinese credit, they have been overtly threatening. They just happened to be the next bogeyman in line to use to drive US foreign policy.

Please write 3-5 sentences clearly articulating why you think this. State your point simply and clearly, without any use of circular vague phrasing or statements in the form of "the Iran war is not __, it's __." Clarity and brevity are paramount. Please think very hard and make no mistakes.

Iran is being allowed by everyone but the US and Israel to attack air traffic and shipping and civilian homes, weaving a massive global conspiracy of influence-peddling and petroleum payoffs. The US and Israel stood up and fought back, being counted, waking this disgusting, horrible "international community" out of its sorry-ass sleep. It is a long, lonely road, and setbacks are normal, but good will prevail.
