The only nice parts of the hill country are too remote to live in. Santa Monica Mountains are also way better than the Hill Country in every possible way. 1. Actual mountains with substantial elevation change, not just 400' hills. 2. Actually beautiful. 3. Proximity + sea views. 4. So many more trails. 5. Proximity to town so you aren't just in the middle of nowhere. |

Drives around Utopia, Leakey, Vanderpool, etc. are nice. Anything closer to San Antonio, like the drive between Medina and Bandera, has been absolutely RUINED by weekend warriors on motorcycles. It's absolutely disgusting. Also, there's a couple of state parks and nothing else to do in that area because, like you said, it's all just huge ranches and private property. |

Texas is the exact kind of state that should follow the GA/AZ pattern because it's very demographically similar: very urban and diverse. |
