Why has the Olympics gotten so much less popular?

Same as the superbowl.
It’s two things, one is the “Bowling Alone” decline of neighborhood parties and get together that gave people an excuse to watch these boring broadcasts in the first place.
The other is that almost all popular culture was cooped by shitlibs so many have no interest in turning on the halftime smut show etc.

another part of it is that the vast majority of America including whites outside of a few areas have never participated or even seen winter sports. this very much includes the vast majority of whites outside of the NE, California, and Upper Midwest
it is quite gay that this is the case. but it's true. this is prole nation man

Because Americans used to reflexively turn on the TV every night, and then they'd have 3 options, and the other 2 stations often showed reruns not to compete with the Olympics.
Now, people aren't even putting the TV on, and if they do, they're probably not instinctively putting on Peacock when they can watch literally 100,000 other shows

I actually realized the biggest reason is the tape delay coupled with the internet.
The past nights I was going to passively watch, but i already knew the quad god lost, the old bobsled chick won, and eileen gu, etc.
For the events not spoiled, Chuck Klosterman once did a good job explaining why live sports are so compelling, but a game you recorded is not - even if you manage to avoid knowing the score.
In live sports, there's a sense that the outcome of the game matters - and the world will somehow be different depending on who wins. But if you're watching something that occurred 8 hours ago, then obviously whatever happened that you're watching didn't really matter.
Another huge part of live sports is the element that something fantastic could happen at any time. A basketball player's leg could snap in half, the players could fight each other or fight fans, the power could go out, etc. But as Klosterman puts it, if you're watching something on tape, you know that nothing incredible happened because you haven't heard anything about it.
Great example of this is Lindsey Vonn - a huge element of all these winter sports is someone could crash and die. That happened to Vonn, and we all found out about it in our social feeds in 5 minutes.
So why am I tuning in to primetime NBC tonight? The media already told me all the interesting results. And due to the fact that i haven't seen anything about the other events, i can safely assume nothing intersting happens in them.

The ratings have been pretty good this year actually.
