the graphics being Good is how they can somewhat justify the hardware. Metroid used to be the prestige graphics title but the westernized it so bad that only like 600k people will buy it. and it's sitting in like 400k backlogs of that number. |

When you're talking about Cartridges, N64 games' Landed cost, like the cost of the Cartridge itself was idk maybe $30 depending on the ROM size. Whereas a digital game is basically pure profit except for the amortized Engineering cost of the e shop.
Also most of us used to buy like 1 or 3 games a year at full price, if that. There used to be so many Used Games for like $10, or Player's Choice for like $20. You could also rent games.
back in the day btw you could Curate, it was really really obvious which games were good and which you'd just rent or buy later for $5. Nowadays there are so many B-/C+ tier games with exquisite Open Worlds, it's like they can't be cheap, but they also suck shit so go pound sand if you want $80 or something
As for the economy and inflation, the Low Losers will just say that they have less Buying Power now than people in the 90s. People in 80s/90s movies drove extremely shitty Corollas and Oldsmobiles and now every nigger has an SUV with 20" wheels. These people will bitch about every setback and take their $22.50/hr gas station wage as Normal and Expected. That's the argument I tried making but I got Downvoted to hell. I tried to meet them on their level. "ok, champ, you had to work like 15 hours at a gas station to Afford Ocarina of Time, whereas BOTW only takes like 3.5..." but they just like saying Buying Power and Stagnant Wages. At some point they need to understand that THEIR wages are stagnant, either because they never tried, or if they did try, that they'd bomb 300 interviews or have a linkedin full of "1 year, 1 month" bs + resume gaps. I say this as someone who's been critical of Nintendo in the past. |

and you can still rent games afaik. but that would be a socioeconomic indicator of poverty today because every respectable Middle Class Loser has a Backlog. meanwhile mom with a Fake Job can drop $70 on Animal Crossing no problem. It doesn't even register with her because $70 is like the price of a replacement water filter for your stainless-steel fridge. big deal. the divide between classes is more severe than we let on imo, and the State of Gaming is symptomatic of it. |
