Residents are upset by the great disruption this has caused to their community. And they feel powerless to do anything about it. That is the truth and that is all really all that matters here, whether the cat/duck eating is a real fact or not does not matter.
Having said that, the best part about the cat eating story is that everyone realizes that it is *plausible*, so it's exciting to see how the story pans out. |

The cat & duck story has bite because it gets to the heart of a lib contradiction that is more important than the cats & ducks:
namely that the whole lib program is named "diversity" bc it grows out of a lib value premised on the world being a big, colorful place with all kinds of different people and different values. Libs celebrate "travel", and "cultural encounters", and "listening", and all that shit bc in fact foreigners are foreign and it is an a priori good to be open-minded to new experiences and different people.
It's GOOD to have gays, GOOD to have furries, GOOD to have burmese and congolese, etc., bc everyone adds a color to the rainbow.
At the same time, libs are zealous believers in blank-slates, that anyone of any culture can achieve the same results, in the absence of systemic oppression.
These two ideas do not mix, but they come to a head when you have very foreign people dropped with no context into Ohio. Libs are caught between "Noooo! they don't eat cats [because they are just like you and me]" And "It's diverse to eat weird shit and diversity is good!"
Normal people have an immediate, instinctual response to foreigners eating gross shit and violating cultural codes, and the response is anti-lib.

IMO, this one is a big winner for libs and the media.
First, no one likes it when people talk shit about Haitian immigrants -- because frankly everybody loves Haitian immigrants. Plus this is obviously extremely racist against black foreigners, and no one likes that sort of sick behavior anymore, either. (Racism is soooo over.) Strike one for Trump.
Second, I'm sure this is all bullshit and Haitian immigrants in the Midwest have been very well behaved and haven't done any outrageous or crazy shit since they got off there. So this will end up being a lot of smoke with no fire, and the more the media digs in, the clearer that will become. Strike two for Trump.
Third and finally, I'm sure that everyone in these communities will also go even further and happily testify that these Haitian immigrants have been a wonderful addition and that the number of immigrants who have been added into the communities has been entirely appropriate given the size of the communities and in summary their presence has only made these neighborhoods stronger and better thanks to greater diversity -- all of which is a wonderful reflection on the Biden/Harris Administration and their excellent asylum/resettlement policies and practices which serve the interests of "real" Americans. So again, the more the media covers this story the better they will come out looking.
Strike three for Trump, and he's out. That dumbass walked right into this. |
