I mean my grandpa "died from" COVID but he was in his late 90s, living in a nursing home, and had not been coherent in years. They don't really know what got him, just that he tested positive and died.

yeah, somewhat distant relative living a deep red area. Anti-vax and he got covid around this past Thanksgiving. He ended up dead. He was in his 70's and kinda fat. Wife (also anti-vax) got it too, but she survived. She later said she was shocked that he died.

First was early on before vaxes available. The second I don’t know for sure but it wouldn’t stun me if he didn’t get vaxxed.

I know 4 that died and a few more hospitalized. The Dead:

1) Biglaw partner I worked a lot for. Early wave (2020). Late 50s. Was overweight, but nothing else wrong with him.

2) Grandfather. In his 90s but was in ok shape for his age.

3) Brother in law’s father in law. Super healthy/robust guy in his 50s. Died in delta wave. His dad died of COVID right around the same time (probably got it from them). Didn’t know the dad, but they had a double funeral.

4) High school friend’s dad last week. Mid 60s otherwise healthy. Just slumped down in his chair and died (likely blood clot) after a week of pretty bad COVID symptoms.

Nobody vaxxed dead or hospitalized. Funny that.

I wasn't hospitalized but it took me out for a solid 2 weeks. Know tons of people who had similar cases, and an elderly relative die from it. Among youngs, it's pretty hit or miss. Most do fine but a lot of healthy folks get hit hard. That David Reaboi guy on Twitter who's a literal bodybuilder who eats steak everyday got hit pretty bad.

It was a bad case of the flu essentially, worst was trouble breathing during the first week (even with Dayquil, breathing through my nose was impossible) and afterwards the lingering fatigue and brain fog.

IDK how XO just writes off totally being miserable and bedridden while MIA from work and the rest of life for the better part of a month as 'no big deal', but 'just the flu' sucks. A lot.

i know 2 who died and after that everyone seemed to say it was a terrible flu. this was early in the process. everyone that i know who had omicron said either it was a cold or "wtf i wouldn't have known i had it if i hadn't tested".

i was at a friend's house for the games and all the families were together and one bro said what most of us think: "i don't know why you people get fucking tested, that shit is a pain in the ass and never comes out good". i jumped in saying "yup. a positive covid test basically can turn your life upside down. don't do it unless you absolutely have to".

Everyone in Bali got Covid but I dont know of a single person who had even a somewhat serious case, let alone anyone who had to go to hospital or died.

I bet it has something to do with being outdoors in sun all the time but (((they))) would never research that. During Spanish Flu though they kept infected ppl outdoors.

There is an absurdly high correlation between obesity and severe covid. Basically anybody who is not super old who is dying of covid is obese.

The former director of the university research center where I used to work died from COVID. It was really tragic because he was one of the top scientists in the world in his area of expertise. I feel bad because he was one of my closest collaborators (and a very dear friend who helped me start my career). I didn't even know he was sick until I got the funeral announcement, so I never got to say goodbye. He was probably in his late 60's. Slightly overweight but otherwise in great health. He still led a demanding lifestyle as a world-class research scientist. He died a couple months before the vaccines became available.

One of my wife's relatives ended up in the hospital on a ventilator for several weeks. He survived but ended up with six figures in medical bills. I hate to feel schadenfreude when something like this happens, but he was an extremely outspoken anti-masker and anti-vaxxer who was constantly mocking people who wore masks and got their vaccines on social media. I took some shit from my wife's family because I refused to donate to his GoFundMe for his medical bills. Sorry, but I just refuse to subsidize stupid. For the record, I'm not sure about his age, but I'm guessing mid-50's. As far as I know his health was good.

The last one I can think of was a Brazilian friend that I met as a Mormon missionary. We hadn't talked much in the past couple decades, but we followed each other on social media. He ended up in the hospital and on a ventilator before vaccines were available in Brazil. He survived although his lungs are still fucked up. That one was particularly scary because he was around my age (early 40's). I like to tell myself that most people who have severe disease are olds, but that isn't always the case.
