the machismo thing is a bit more involved than it might seem at first. it has to do with dominance within the spheres of influence in which a man is expected to be dominant.
eg, in the bedroom - you're supposed to take charge and ream her good. or deciding something like where to go to dinner. a generic white beta might do something like CONSULT with his GF beforehand about where to go. a hispanic man will tell his girl to get in the car, and when he gets to where he wants to go, that's where they'll eat.
but in the realm of household affairs, machismo recedes a lot. if the woman needs a new oven, then the dude is expected to work overtime to get more money to pay for it. that's the other side of machismo. and she gets to pick the make and model. and so on.
latinas may try to "test" your will to keep them in line, sometimes in public. just do what all the squat, dusky 5'3" guatemalan dudes do - tell her to simmer down, or she'll get the backhand. |
