A lot. He threw up yesterday and someone said his vomit smelled like pure alcohol. His father died of alcoholism and his brother has been severely impacted by it

Why would you think that? Consuela always struck me as some white collar wagecuck. I figured he was a coder and remote but I wouldn't be suprised if he was anything other than lawyer (not venerating lawyers it's just that he doesn't seem legally trained, he's certainly smart enough to have been a lawyer.)

People seem to mistake my online persona for how I act irl, but xo is an outlet so I don’t have to act this way irl. In irl I am quiet and friendly and distant and professional. If I told people what I thought all the time I would be foreveralone

This is ironic considering how I often criticize you for thinking you have insight into poasters based on what they say here. For example a few of the things you attack me for are just jokes and complete flame.
Anyway, HATP has a negative take about everyone. Not suprised he's 100% confident you're a NEET despite no indicia beyond poasting crazy conspiracy theories which plenty of people believe. You seem more likely to be an accountant or some shit that's just a bit isolated.

I never even said that lol. I mentioned my GF texting me about a poop after being ill and you took that an ran with it.
It isn't "what it is", it's what you choose it to he which is why I criticize you for elevating your shit as a calling that's incompatible with success, friendship, or happiness. But I'm not going to lecture you about that for the Nth time.
Sorry about your coworker, really. Few things are sadder than a preventable premature death from addicition.

No I actually reach out to the people I’m distant with, they remain distant for whatever reason. Friends are important to me, I used to take them for granted but don’t now that I don’t have very many, and actively extend myself for the ones left
I do my reading and writing because I need to, it’s part of my heleq/portion, this is why I can acknowledge the critiques without letting them undermine me - I have to do it for myself to stay sane

I'm really sorry to hear that dude. You've mentioned you try not to let this shit interfere with friendships like bringing it up constantly. Maybe you are without knowing it (I've got a few friends like that that I've distanced myself from just because it's so annoying, not that I care in substance.) Or maybe it's just drifting apart, which is sadly common.
It's good to hear that you value friendships and are making an effort. Keep at it and put yourself in a position to meet new people too. Hope you find some FRIENDS where the effort isn't all one way. It's important.

Dying from alcohol always seemed strange to me. Like dying from water. I know it’s possible but how much does that actually take. Sometimes I’ll drink like a liter or two of jager and feel totally normal, flawlessly operate massive machinery, write short stories, do gardening and construction projects etc

to be fair he is kind of lucky. if he had gone less hard and tried to "rationally" resist and fight it instead of fully committing to the bit, he'd likely have just lived a horrible unfulfilling life and died a slow painful death of cirrhosis 10 years later

I drink like 3-6 beers per day, I hope I'm okay. Most people on both sides of my family drank a LOT more than that and lived to be quite old, so I think I have genetics on my side and I rarely drink the hard stuff. Still exercise & eat healthy and try to mix in some ginger/turmeric tea for the liver inflammation

At first he'd just drink like 10-12 beers and be fun, then after a few years He'd get belligerent, and then repeat himself over and over, and you had to babysit him irl and he'd get cut off by bartenders etc but was harmless.
then became a real sloppy drunk, like embarrassing, then transitioned into an angry/ depressed drunk and he'd get blackout on tequila real quick. Just feels really sad to witness and actually ruined even mild social drinking for me

I think thats actually how a lot of people die once they retire or divorce. Basically if you're alone with nothing to do, you could easily drink 1L of wine each day. That's not enough to be considered an alcoholic or to develop cirrhosis, people might not even know you drink if you try to hide it. But it's enough to fry your brain/heart/intestines over 10 years. And it's appealing in a way because each time I drink 1L it fucks me up physically the next day but mentally just like if you have any other sickness you can feel enlightened while the body recovers. Of course anyone with a serious job or family doesn't do this... but if you see someone retire/divorce and 3 years later they're dying of stroke thats probably from 1L a day

People with serious jobs don’t drink a little more than a bottle of wine a day? Lol. There are a ton of people with very serious jobs that a drink a lot more than that. Boozing doesn’t really affect job performance that negatively. In fact you can get into a real groove just pounding drinks and working all day, makes you loose on stressful calls. It’s the rest of your life that falls apart.

I think most people can appear sober with 1L wine throughout the day and not actually develop cirrhosis. But they'll still breakdown and once they hit 60s will be admitted to er as "elderly men slipped and fell alcoholic, demented". The ones who actually develop cirrhosis drink much more and you would actually see them visibly drunk.
