Actually these are the people you *should* be sharing it with and the only reason you don't is because you know they'll react poorly and which frustrates the true purpose of it being a vehicle to wallow in isolation and misery.

Invite her over for dinner. When she shows up and asks what you're preparing, tell her "YOU!" and chase her around with a prop knife. When she finally collapses and thinks it's over, shout "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!" and help her up. Then tell her to get the fuck out and to stop being a bitch

this is just a tiny example of my general dislike of women and my focus on "totality"
here there's a surface level question or comment, with a brutal underlying unstated demand, lashes out if the underlying understated demand is not met, and she universally claims to not cause "drama" at the same time
lol. i mean i'm generally effusive and i thank people when they do anything nominally helpful for me, but i still think it's weird for her to expect that from you

I think he's mentioned that his Mom is a typical overbearing, critical Jewish Mom. While probably very frustrating and annoying, this is likely her way of showing love and affection.

It would matter whether he even wanted the fucking thing. If yes, then some amount of warmth is appropriate. If not (or even ambivalent), and if it wasn't something for his benefit, then she's entitled to nothing

There are two "normal" paths:
1. What you describe
2. Moms who assume that anything that comes into their head is useful / helpful / worth attention because it came into their fucking head and involved a life that they excreted from their birth canal
I've long assumed that #2 is the more common of the "normal" paths. But maybe that's just bias towards my life experience

She just wants to talk to you and doesn't like seeing you be miserable. You should stop reacting with annoyance and criticism and consider that she's probably one of the only people in your life that cares about you and is making an effort to help you.

that would have prevented this response, yes, its just exhausting that i have to add effusiveness to every text and scan for subtext constantly, all while she claims to be "direct" and not cause drama

Responding with a flat "yes" signals coldness. When someone ks sending you one word text responses that means they don't want to talk to you. And Consuela reaction and attitude towards his Mom proves it in this instance too.
This whole thing makes me a bit sad. A Mom sending her son things and then reaching out and then even trying to pry something, anything out of him. A guy who admits he's lonely and seeking human interaction pushing his own Mom away. Just a bummer all around.
