Blueberries. Yesterday I made cheese burgers on a charcoal grill because the weather was nice. I made a topping from a couple of charcoal roasted poblanos, butter, yellow onion, garlic, shiitake mushrooms, and some soy sauce for dat umami. We ate them on a store bought, pre packaged “potato roll” that was like $5 for 6 buns. Also mowed the lawn in between making the burgs and the topping, and I drank a bier.

i ended up with a caloric deficit of around 1,000 calories yesterday because i fell asleep before i had my nightly protein bar

i think all the extra weight i gained was due to stress-induced eating. i was incredibly stressed out for months and ate to temporarily relieve the stress. but the stress has become more manageable recently, which has allowed me to control my eating

losing weight actually seems pretty easy as long as you eat the right food and there aren't any huge stressors or other big issues in your life. i'm eating a shitload of of fiber (beans, whole wheat foods), a lot of protein (chicken, protein bars, and greek yogurt), and some fruits/vegetables

hard to capture in pictures but my gut has definitely shrunk a bit. it sticks out/hangs over noticeably less. i'm guessing i've lost 3-5 lbs so far.

i'm intentionally not using a scale to track my weight loss. all i monitor is calories in, sufficient protein and fiber intake, calories out, and what i see in the mirror.

Yeah, that's a far higher deficit than I'd recommend. That's why you feel so bad. Drop it to like 4-500 calories.

Also, figure out your macros and then structure your carbs immediately before and after hard activity like squats. That will give you much better results.

You probably need more than that. Deficits of greater than 500 calories are really hard to sustain. Your performance is absolutely going to suffer. Smart timing with carbs will alleviate that as much as can be done, but you're still working at a tremendous deficit.

You will recover very poorly from any strength training, body in catabolic state not anabolic. Will become calorie efficient and pack on lbs once you eat normally. Can you transition to something sustainable with balanced diet and increased strength/fitness? You don't care now but you will care later about bone density and muscle mass.

Yeah man, a cheat day where you don't go overboard (maintenance or surplus not exceeding 500 calories) will do wonders for you once every week or two on a cut. I really would try to weigh your food consistently for a few days so you can have a much more concrete understanding of how much you're eating. Then you can fine tune your deficit so it's moderate. The cut will take longer but you'll feel way better and you'll have a lot more muscle at the end of it.

current exercise routine:

20,000+ steps per day

weights at least three times a week, 30 minute sessions.

recently started biking again. not sure how often i'll do this.

the goal is to burn around 1,000 calories per day through exercise.

the deficit of 800-1000+ calories per day is not sustainable, so i'm adding this to my diet:

protein bar first thing in the morning (190 calories)

one cup of organic nonfat Greek yogurt for lunch (150 calories)

one tablespoon of organic olive oil with dinner (120 calories)

one banana before weight workouts (100 calories)

this brings the deficit to around 400-500 calories per day.

"cheat meal" once every other week.

You are miscounting calories somehow or miscalculated your baseline metabolic burn. If you are actually walking 20K steps daily and routinely at an 800 calorie deficit from just food intake, you should be losing roughly a pound a week.

update: when i got fat my pants didn’t fit anymore so i wore sweatpants and loose Lululemon pants. today i put on my size 32 skinny jeans and they fit, didn’t even have to struggle to zip up and button up. still have a small gut but abs should be back soon.
