Author: Mainlining the $ecret truth of the univer$e (I have concepts of a plan. )
Context:
INT. RUNDOWN ROOM - EARLY AFTERNOON.
A small, dimly lit room in a run-down building in downtown SeaTTTle. The faint noise of a bustling city outside is muted by thick, grime-covered windows. Boom, seated in his wheelchair, leans forward, his hands resting on a cluttered table. His face shows signs of weariness, a twitch from his ADM-induced brain damage subtly noticeable. Mainlining sits across from him, a curious look on his face.
A tape recorder sits between them, surrounded by scattered notes and a half-empty bottle of cheap bourbon. Boom pours them both a shot.
BOOM:
Good. Good. How are you feeling?
MAINLINING:
Yeah, good.
They clink glasses and drink. Mainlining shudders at the strength of it, while Boom gives a knowing grin.
BOOM:
I've been writing… BULAGH! Feels like I went under. Dark cloud rolls in… Anxious to share new work—would you care for some informal processing?
MAINLINING:
Sure…
BOOM:
Well, then, I gather myself… and you be my protege and guinea pig, eh? Informal processing.
Boom smiles, excited, and maneuvers closer to the old tape recorder with a wheeze from his wheelchair. He points the microphone toward Mainlining, glancing over his notes.
BOOM (CONT'D):
Are you ready?
MAINLINING:
Yes.
Boom flips the tape recorder on, smiles, reads, looks up:
BOOM:
Say your name.
MAINLINING:
Mainlining.
BOOM:
Say it again.
MAINLINING:
Mainlining.
BOOM:
Say it again.
MAINLINING:
Mainlining.
BOOM:
Might as well say it one more time just to make sure you know who you are…
MAINLINING:
Mainlining.
BOOM:
Do you ever make thoughtless poasts?
MAINLINING:
I usually put some thought into them.
BOOM:
Do you browse through old AutoAdmit threads just for pleasure?
MAINLINING:
No.
BOOM:
Do you get occasional twitches of your muscles when there is no logical reason for it?
Mainlining flutters around goofily.
MAINLINING:
Only on my good days.
BOOM:
Do past poasts haunt you?
MAINLINING:
No.
BOOM:
Do past poasts haunt you?
MAINLINING:
No.
BOOM:
Do past poasts haunt you?
MAINLINING:
No. (Except for when I confuse which one of us, is us, haha.)
BOOM:
So past poasts haunt you?
MAINLINING:
…I don't know… You keep asking me… No, not really.
BOOM:
Is your life a constant struggle for survival?
MAINLINING:
…Not really… Life’s alright.
BOOM:
Would you rather give orders than take them?
MAINLINING:
Sure.
BOOM:
Are you often impulsive in your behavior?
MAINLINING:
…Sure… Yes.
BOOM:
Do other poasters interest you very much?
MAINLINING:
Not really. (The Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition do, my friend.)
BOOM:
Do you find it easy to be impartial?
MAINLINING:
Yeah.
BOOM:
Are you likely to be jealous?
MAINLINING:
No… About what?
BOOM:
Are you logical and scientific in your thinking?
MAINLINING:
I'm… I don't know. Don’t care much about science.
BOOM:
Do you rarely suspect the actions of others?
MAINLINING:
I don't understand.
BOOM:
Yes, you do.
MAINLINING:
…I suspect people… Yes. Sure. So… No, rarely. Most poasters are idiots anyway.
BOOM:
Are you usually truthful to others?
MAINLINING:
…No… I don't know. Guess so.
BOOM:
Are your poasts considered unpredictable by other poasters?
Mainlining pauses, seems to seriously consider the question. Then, out of the blue, he suddenly screams:
MAINLINING:
BLLLLLLLLL GH.
How's that? (laughs hysterically)
BOOM:
Silly… It’s good to laugh during processing… Sometimes we forget.
Boom reaches down, brings the microphone closer to his mouth:
BOOM (CONT'D):
"Mainlining, Test Session. September 10th, 2024, 1400 hours. At an undisclosed location, SeaTTTle. MOC logged and approved."
Boom clicks the recorder off and smiles at Mainlining; he leans in, giving him a comforting pat on the shoulder.
BOOM (CONT'D):
Should we sample another sip before we join them back on the borts?
MAINLINING:
Is that it?
BOOM:
For now.
MAINLINING:
I'm ready for more if you want to ask me…
[Boom and Mainlining lock eyes again, a new layer added to their twisted dynamic in the dimly lit room, somewhere between conspiracy, camaraderie, and chaos.]
