it's convoluted but most pl's attorneys use the same doctors over and over again on a medical lien type of situation

the doctor gets paid only if the plaintiff recovers and usually at a marked down rate

the lawyer gets the first cut from the pot of money; so driving up medicals directly benefits him

Epidural injections are really expensive. A diligent claimant can get injections 4 to 6 times a year over 2 to 4 years (depending on SOL). That can increase meds significantly.

Depending on jurisdiction and nature of injuries, a basic rule of thumb is you multiply meds by 1.5 to 2.5 to get pain suffering.

Ad it all up, and injections can increase the value of a claim by a couple hundred k, easily.
