I've been studying geology for the past two years with the intent on getting into mining exploration, or petroleum geology. I joined explicitly for the GI bill, but didn't realize how good it was until I started using it.
Prior to using it, I knew it would cover my tuition, but I didn't know I get paid BAH, which is a little over $2000 a month where I live. Also I get all my grants and scholarships paid directly to me, which is how I make most of my cash now. It's a good deal. |

Historically oil and gas paid more for basically every profession it encompasses (engineering, geology, accounting, random other white collar shit etc.). Not sure if that's still the case but wouldn't be surprised given the recent strength of commodity prices. |

Most people in the Army that are getting out over the shot are probably using it as an opportunity to simply get out. There is no way of getting out of your contract without fucking something up, eg failing two PT tests, testing positive for drugs, DUI, etc. Refusing the vaccine is a great way to get out, if you just want to get out. |

We would go on field training exercises wherein we would go out into the desert and basically work 36 hours straight doing bullshit. I was an officer's driver, which meant I just drove around Captains and Majors all fucking day.
I was stuck with this Captain for two weeks, and after a while my balls started to hurt because I was young and nubile and hadn't jacked off a while. Also, I was sitting down all the time which made it worse. So I lied to this Captain, told him I was gonna take a shit behind a hill.
In reality I walked out about half a kilometer, found a perfect shrine of sin on a hill, dropped my pants and rubbed one out. As soon as I was done though, I heard this sound totally alien to me. When you're in the army long enough, you become well-acquainted with a ton of sounds, but not this, it sounded like a fucking lawnmower. I pull my pants up in a hurry, do a 360 and try to find the source, to no avail. Eventually, I walk back to my cumthrone and sit down for a moment, but as I do, I look up. There's a fucking drone circling overhead, with its camera pointed directly at me. The ONLY time in my life I've ever been caught jacking off and it was by a fucking drone in the middle of a goddamn desert. |

I reorganized CONEXs dozens, if not hundreds of times, wherein the heat just gets trapped in that fucking box.
Jumping TOC is a phrase that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up to this day. I once had to jump TOC with two other people helping me, wearing MOPP 4 in the middle of the night. That was a bad time. |

I had two abscessed teeth in the middle of AIT, during which I could not simply drive to the dentist and get it taken care of. After about a week of the worst pain in my life, I talked to the head instructor of my course, a civilian that had served during Vietnam that later became a First Sergeant. He was a very caustic, serious man, that I expected to give me shit, but he immediately saw the swelling in my face and did a 180 in temperament, becoming a kindly, sweet old man, and made sure I got it fixed right away. Even wisdom teeth directly on top of the IAN. In almost all cases where the source of infection is resolved (root canal or removal of the tooth/teeth), the abscess will resolve without any lingering symptoms. I have 10% disability due to chronic pain in my knees, and 30% from the event with the dental abscesses. On the form I received in the mail, it explicitly was categorized as "nerve damage". This was at Fort Sill. btw, only the Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard (I think) have boot camp. The Army refers to it as "Basic Training". AIT is where you go to learn your MOS, but if you're in combat arms they typically have "OSUT" (one station unit training) where you do both AIT and basic training in the same place.
