It did seem weird that a car that CANT use gas is considered an upgrade.over a car that can use both gas and electricity

I can get a plug in Volvo (gas/electric) next month. Thinking about holding out for an electric Audi. Hybrid seems unnecessarily complicated and the range of the Audi (220+ miles) seems fine.

220 isn’t what you actually get given 80% charging and cold weather, etc. It’s more like 180 miles. And if that’s your max daily range you should consider whether you actually need a car.

Plug-in hybrid seems like the best of both world on the surface but over time it's the worst because you have to constantly charge the car and get gas. That's 1 extra thing to keep track of mentally.

what is the point of having to use a cord to plug it in when you’re not driving it?

A regular hybrid can only go full electric for like 500 yards before the gas engine kicks in. A larger battery allows it to be full electric for 30-60 miles, while also recharging the battery like hybrid when braking. A gas engine + electric engine also means a lot more speed/power.

Very low IQ thread. A plug-in hybrid means that you have an internal combustion engine and a transmission (both of which will eventually fail and be very costly to replace) not to mention dozens of other moving parts that can wear out. Electric engines have far fewer moving parts so they need much less maintenance. Even the brakes last longer due to regenerative breaking. There is zero reason to buy a plug-in hybrid unless you live in an apartment complex or park on the street or can't charge at home for some other reason. LJL at these low IQ idiots who want the option of driving to the gas station when they could just charge at home for a fraction of the cost.

Would be especially stupid to get a plug-in hybrid if you can't charge at home. The car would be underpowered all the time and the ICE would start to feel janky at high RPMs after 10-20k miles.

This happened in Europe. Corporations bought tens of thousands of PHEVs to give their employees as company cars, but Europeans don't have garages/at home car charging, so tens of thousands of Europeans are driving PHEVs, hauling 500lb uncharged battery packs around. LJL

It's a better option if you plan on doing roadtrips or going anywhere out of town. You're fooling yourself if you think you can use your full EV on roadtrips. Half the chargers I've tried using don't work... Enjoy getting stranded in bumfuck b/c your EV ran out of juice. LJL

regenerative braking doesn't use the brakes

It essentially uses the electric motors in reverse to slow the car and put charge back into the battery
