As with the LSAT, there is incredible pressure all the way from HYS down to every lowly TTT to lobby for doing away with the bar. Not only is the 2008 demographic bomb coming home to roost for sub-T14s later this decade, the optics of having an objective and difficult (for retards) test in 2023 when admissions has now gone nearly completely "holistic" is deeply NOT OKAY.

Here's a tweet showing, among other things, that someone took and failed the exam 33 times in CT: https://twitter.com/ryanmckeen/status/1653568638933139456 . Notice that most of the responses are whiny millennials and zoomers explaining how deeply unfair it is that this hateful old relic of the white man's meritocracy still exists. This sentiment is shared among current law students, law hopefuls, and much of the faculty at top law schools.

The lower half of our majestic profession is about to get much, MUCH dumber, similar to the SAT-less students that are being admitted to colleges nationwide now. ChatGPT and other AIs will obfuscate this phenomenon a great deal, but ljl at proles hiring Trayvon Martin, Esq. to represent them 10 years from now.

Lol at thinking that’s the way it works in medicine. The only reason medicine is “hard to get into” is because the schools themselves require a lot of money to operate, so every TTT seeking a cash cow can’t open one. Law school, on the other hand, just requires a library, if even that. It’s a structural issue, not a deliberate attempt to promote merit.

pandemic for me. Parenting is fucked right now with the bullshit insanity you have to put up with. Feel so bad for my bro right now - loves his kids of course (and i adore them) - but it's a pretty hellish existence to get through all the shit you have to get through bringing a kid through school systems and keep them from coming out headfucked. That's if someone doesn't shoot up their school. The anxiety of having a child nowadays is insane. The cost is worse.

May as well not duplicate whatever the fuck I have wrong with me anyway, spend my cash happily and live a nice life trying to make sure my nieces make it out okay and that my bro doesnt fuck them up somehow, and make sure their teachers, friends, other family members don't fuck them up somehow.

I'm going to start bringing them out to Europe every Summer to get them away from the US / that environment and hope that helps them keep a shred of sanity while the rest of the US eats itself. I'll be a parent a quarter of the year, then have a great time the rest of it.

There was a lawyer in my town who got licensed after graduating from a bottom feeder law school, taking the bar exam four times, and somehow squeaking through on her final attempt. She practiced for four years. It was a horror show. She went solo right out of the gate and quickly acquired a reputation for massive levels of incompetence and dishonesty. There were about a dozen different state bar inquiries proceeding against her, for everything from lying in court to failing to keep trust account records to stealing from clients. Disbarred after just a few years of practicing.

The point that I'm making is, practicing law is pretty intellectually demanding. If they drop the standards even a little, many of the morons that get licensed will self destruct and flame out of the profession in short order.

It doesn’t matter that science and medicine are easier than portrayed. The point is that they both have long training pipelines with zero overlap with law. In order to make a career / life switch, you’re looking at redoing 5-6 years of your life.

lol at your strawman. but yes, fart apps contribute more to society than law. law is a negative-sum game that produces nothing of value and only consumes value. the fart app at least makes its users happy at the expense of nobody else. consulting increases the overall efficiency of the system, which is positive-sum, even if there are winners and losers.

anyway, lots of professions produce value, even if just hedonic value. some even produce tangible value, such as engineering.

as far as polisci shitheads being incapable of shifting to other professions, fuck them, who cares. i'm talking about future high-IQ people who would potentially go into law...many of them have high enough IQ that they don't NEED to be polisci shitheads. they would make at least mediocre engineers or doctors or technicians. the collapse of all barriers to entry to law will encourage young smarts considering law to do something productive instead of the polisci-to-law pipeline.

the most negative-sum professions are probably law and marketing/advertising.

There are plenty of other areas that are “good” for society, arguably even more so than medicine or “science”, like plumbing, electrician, etc. The issue we see today is that medicine and science have become “trade” jobs, rather than innovators pushing the boundaries. The only difference between a plumber and the modal med student today is the med student has zero risk tolerance and was pushed into his/her career track by parents angling to give their kids a lucrative career.

look, i'm sitting here and copping that most law is flame. but there are legit lawyers. there is a reason why courts have existed since ancient times whereas (((business consultants))) are a recent phenomenon. society needs some system for resolving disputes otherwise it's barbarism or vigilantism.

I’m gonna have to side with HA on this one. What’s the point in having more ADAs and making a nice society when it will just be used to justify and incentivize bringing more criminally-inclined people to the area? You’re society just gets ripped back down again, except now you have a massive surveillance state on top of it. ADAs are treating a symptom, not curing the disease.

again, you don't seem to understand what a zero-sum game is. the only reason you need a 140-IQ person to litigate your PI claim for you because the other guy has a 140-IQ attorney. you would get just as societally positive an outcome if both of the attorneys were 120-IQ or 110-IQ instead. if compensation in the field goes down, fewer smart people will go into the field and will pursue more productive endeavors, but outcomes in law will remain quite similar.

Define what it means to "fuck up" a dispute and explain how the outcome would be much different than today's system, where lawyers of different abilities match up.

Also, smarter lawyers will continue to command some sort of a premium, so for the most consequential cases involving the largest sums, the lawyers will still be mildly smart.

wrong. again, when some consulting powerpoint jockey goes in and causes some deadweight middle management to be fired or a technologically obsolete assembly line to be shut down, it is bad for the employees, sure. but it actually results in greater overall welfare because it makes the system more efficient, so it's positive-sum. it's analogous to when automation causes jobs to disappear. yes, the benefit accrues only to the shareholders, and that's a problem, and we should redistribute the resulting surplus. but it's still a net positive sum, unlike law, which is zero-sum or negative-sum. this is basic economics.

It sounds like you’re a lot more optimistic than I am. IMO, any new net-positive will be immediately arbitraged away by desperate/poor/dumb people moving in and acting their own self-interests (rather than those of a society). Look at how much progress we have made in medicine over the last 50 years, but life expectancy is declining because retards can’t not take fentanyl, low-impulse-control morons have to stuff their faces with corn syrup and give themselves diabetes, and teens have decided carjacking is their favorite hobby.

/r/barexam is full of retards demanding the exam be abolished.

for people saying "it'll never happen" -- 10 years ago you would have said entrance exams for college would never be eliminated. some shitlib state will admit people with diploma privilege and other states will follow suit soon after.

idk. i heard a few states did it during the pandemic temporarily. that is going to be the toe hold to make it permanent.

"he had diploma privleged lawyers for two years and everything was fine, clearly the bar exam is redundant and unnecessarily. also it's inherently racist *unfurls racial disparity in passing scores and challenge anyone to claim it's because dindus are dumber*"

there's strong efforts by TTT schools to prevent some of their students from even taking the bar exam. how do you measure how good a law school is after bar passage rate is gone? "% who committed malpractice" in first 5 yrs?

idk man how do you measure how good your law school students are when you eliminate the LSAT and are admitting dindus with 4.8s in african studies?

schools will coast by on their prestige for the foreseeable future. schools are "good" because they have the reputation for being "good". also, lolschool is pretty fungible anyway. do you really think shitlib prof at yale is doing much more tahn shitlib prof at wustl? students are just skipping class and doing E&Es anyway. it's all flame.

it only applies if you went to school IN wisconsin, and i don't think a wisconsin bar card is easily transferable to other states.

Given the collapse in law school enrollment, there’s definitely going to be pressure to drop it or make it even easier. 2022 had the fewest first years since 1974.

probably. obviously the best solution is what you said above and making it even more difficult. but we can't unring the "anyone can be a lawyer!" bell so we're just going to be getting dumber and dumber attorneys for years. this might actually be a pretty good thing for lawyers in fields that actually require intelligence. for shitlawyers though it's going to get real kooky. esp when state courts becoming increasingly populated with 90iq judges.

The grads are definitely getting dumber. More and more accomplished people are avoiding law school. It's not even just law school. Over the past 10 years liberal arts has seen upwards of 50% declines in enrollment, even at elite schools. Academia can keep pulling their tricks but I think the market is going to win out.

idk. the hr-ification of the country and credentialism has resulted in even retard jobs requiring a degree. that's on top of living in a post-labor world where we just don't need that many people working anyway. i have no idea what's going to happen. i don't trust the market to fix it because institutions are set up in a way that prevent the market from operating organically.

isn't college enrollment going down too, particularly among the shit schools? In the next 5-10 years you're going to start having high school grads whose parents are millenials. They have less affinity toward higher education. Polling shows millenials are much more likely to regret their college debt levels and their choice of study. Higher ed can tinker with this stuff but it's going to be a tidal wave of change, especially for mediocre and bottom-tier private schools.

At the same time the wage gap between degree holders and non degreemos has never been higher. As supply of smartmo grads decreases, wages will go up. At some point it will swing back.

Millennials regret degrees and debt because they majored in ttt liberal arts majors and couldn't find a job. The reason liberal arts is down 50% is new generation is going for STEM because they're following the money.

It's all cyclical but there's never been a better time to have a degree.
