"His trial on first-degree felony continuous sexual abuse of a young child charges ended in a mistrial in June 2025 after jurors deadlocked 7-5 in favor of finding him guilty.
At the April 16 plea hearing, Sparkman asked the child’s mother if she wanted him to accept the plea agreement. She said she did, adding how difficult it was for her son, who just turned 14, to testify about the three years of abuse in front of a room full of strangers.
Assistant Attorney General Brenda Cantu told the judge that her office considered the boy’s desire not to testify again, the toll it would take on him and the deadlocked outcome of the first trial when offering the plea agreement."

Even though they tried that once and the kid felt uncomfortable wagging his ass for a bunch of strangers again? Must have been a lot of reasonable doubt for half the jury to vote not to convict (was probably filled with libs)

60/40 is pretty close to a coin flip. Still a lot of scenarios where republicans keep the senate and dems only get a narrow house majority. Not a great 2028 map either. Going to be a lot of drama on election night.
