Here's the deal: AMD consumer chips are basically just server chips that failed QC. That's why they support ECC memory out of the box, but it's also why idle power draw is so high.
AMD made a line of workstation APUs called Ryzen PRO that didn't have this problem. They idle at <10 watts. They also have integrated graphics, so you don't need a discrete GPU. However, unlike AMD consumer APUs, these workstation APUs support ECC RAM. I got screenshots to confirm ECC works.

THESE are what people should be using to build out any kind of NAS or home server. There's no point in getting anything faster because you're already throttled by network speed, and there's no software you're using that doesn't already run like a raped ape on CPUs of this vintage. The only problem is they were never sold vendor unlocked in the USA. If you want one you can actually use you have to buy it from CHINA.
