When it fails session id is preserved but post.php is treated as unauthenticated. It looks like a server-side reject during specific logins and appears to be tied to the ref_page redirect flow into post.php?thread=yes.
Edit: Just was locked out again for a second, and also looked at the file I was talking about it was nothing important.
