The downside of adult children living in the home is it can result in gray divorce. My ex-wife and I disagreed on how to raise children, so we definitely disagreed on how to handle adult children living in the home. I was back to arguing about their open sibling rivalry, dirty dishes, empty Amazon boxes with bubble wrap left around the home, and trying to get any money out of them to contribute. All I heard was that their generation has more difficultly with paying expenses but then I see an $8.00 latte in their hand as I'm being all told this. There's a fine line between help and enablement.

Gen X apologists amongst the millennial generation (Zoomers dont know any of this) are being brutally targeted by Boomer hitsquads to silence the last gasps of their testimony

It's actually incredible how we just skipped over GenX entirely in politics. They just got dominated by the silent gen and boomers then overtaken by millennials. Might be the biggest fumble in history.

They're not in trouble.

We're in trouble for having to fund their 30 years of retirement and Medicare.

Do you think it's a bit disingenuous to argue both that baby boomers are better set up for retirement and then also that they are so poor that gen exers are forced to financially support their aging boomer parents? I think he also vastly overstates the extent to which the average boomer is collecting on a big fat pension.

I think this "sandwich generation" term is a bit of a fiction. Gen Xers (especially older ones) were still lucky enough to get through college without taking on massive student loans. While this complains about supporting his adult children, in all likelihood, he didn't pay for his kid's education who is now starting out life 6 figures in debt and competing against AI for jobs. Let's project how the rest of their adult lives play out and see if this gen x sad sack still feelsl ike a victim.

but both are somehow true irl. Gen X either gets to watch boomers boom it all away and leave them with nothing, or their parents are poor af and need help. both situations suck for Gen X. it's different people in each scenario I guess. but in one intact Gen X household you could have the husband's parents rich af and giving nothing in terms of inheritance while the Gen X guy seethes, and the wife's parents are Poor and need help. Gen X Loses in both scenarios.

in another time, you might have rich parents but they put more effort into taking care of your financial wellbeing, *or* maybe you had poor parents but they drank themselves to death and died quickly/cheaply/efficiently.

The poor Boomers are the worst ime. Like Raymond’s Dad.

“Aw shucks don’t mind me, I’m just a humble retard, had me some kids I couldn’t damn well afford, oh well, turn up that Jimmy Buffett and God Bless Israel”

rich/poor is a weird way to look at things when you think about it. see my thread on this on the front page. what would you have raymond's dad do? go on 50 interviews, shrewdly bide his time, contribute the statutory max to his 401k, buy the S&P500 like a Loser? what would be the point? at least by embracing the Scumbag that he is he can wake up every day and look at himself in the mirror. his overall satisfaction with life is clearly so much better than Raymond's for this very reason.

No one is entitled to an inheritance. If the boomer parents want to spend their money, that's their prerogative. That scenario doesn't "suck" for the Gen X guy. He's a victim because he didn't get a huge inheritance?

I'm not sure your comment about prior generations is accurate. Did boomers receive huge inheritances? more so than gen X or millenials expect to?

Nobody is entitled to an inheritance afaik but on average the cohort who’s like “fuck you champ 😡 “ are going to be Worse People and studies have shown that’s the case with boomers

Anecdotally yeah prior gens kind of just Gave boomers shit, Biden was Given a senate seat at 29, many such cases. If Fred Trump Sr were a boomer he wouldn’t have handed off his empire in like 1980 when he lived for decades after that.

With that said, anecdotal evidence is intellectually dishonest so if you want it Stricken from the record I’ll edit this post 👍
