FIRST OFF: What the Nazis did was beyond horrible. We lack the linguistic components to describe what happened. We have to describe individual instances of horror just to paint a picture: women raped in front of daughters, twins operated on and sewn together, gays injected with cocktails of chemicals, races targeted for industrial extermination that left rotting corpses piled like mountains. We could spend the rest of our existence analyzing and labeling the Nazis for their crimes and we’d never do it justice. I believe that every Nazi government official should have been shot on sight for what they did. Trials serve the purpose of protecting civilized societies from themselves. There was no reason to grant the Nazis such an honor. THAT is just how harshly I think of the Nazis, so don’t think I’m apologizing, being soft or in anyway letting those monsters off the hook.

But let’s cut the shit, the Nazis had the unfortunate circumstance of doing their dirty business in the modern era of filming, radio and broadcasts. Many civilizations did horrible, HORRIBLE things long before them and get a pass because the grotesquery gets lost through the obscurity of the ages. But don’t for a second fool yourself into believing that your hands are clean; that you are here today through honor and peace. You and I walk on the bones of millions of slaughtered and destroyed civilizations. Vile. A completely inadequate word. Vile things happened in ALL of our pasts to bring us here. So much murder and destruction happened to bring you here that you RIGHTLY must hide your eyes from it and not investigate it at the risk of going mad at the immensity of that horror. But it’s there. It happened.

This is why tainting of blood is something we FREE PEOPLE know that we cannot do; otherwise each of us would need to be bled dry. In each of our veins courses the blood of the million-year heritage of what utter animals our ancestors were. This is not to call them evil (although, to be certain, many were). This is not to damn them (I posses no such righteous authority). This is calling our history for what it is: a bloodbath. Nobody gets a pass on that.

Do the Creole Mexicans & Spanish live in “fear” for what Cortes and his contemporaries did in slaughtering the natives of Mexico?

Do all Hispanics tremble at the thought of what Columbus did in the Americas?

Do South Americans & Spanish live in fear for what Pizarro and his contemporaries did?

Do Russians feel horrible guilt for what Stalin and his Czarist predecessors did to the natives of Asia, their own people, the Jews and the Kossaks?

Do Americans wallow in guilt for what white ancestors did to Africans, Asians and Native Americans?

Do Indians live in shame for Sati, and past empires and genocides?

Do all Native Americans feel horrible for what their tribal ancestors did to each other?

Do the Mexican Native Indians feel shame for what their Aztec ancestors did in sacrificing human flesh?

Do Persians & Iranians cry out in horror at the crimes committed in the thousands of years of empires that came before them?

Do Mongols feel shame for their massive empire of the past?

Do Italians hide their faces in shame for what Mussolini, and the Romans did throughout Europe?

Do the Belgians cry themselves to sleep for the horrors of Leopold’s genocide in the Congo?

Do the Turks wail in the streets for the sins of the Ottomans and the Hittites?

Do the Chinese cover their shame for Mao, foot bindings and the horrors of their past?

Do Japanese people shout in anguish at what the Imperialists did during WWII?

Do the Brits (including current inheritors: Canadians, New Zealanders, South Africans and Australians) live in fear of the judgment of the world for – well – conquering the world?

Name a race. Name a tribe, and I promise you, we can find evidence of horrible behavior. The only difference is the propinquity of the crime to where we are right now. Some are fortunate that it happened so long ago. Some matured later in human history. Some fall back into barbarism despite their best nature. Either way, every one of us is here because of rape, murder and destruction. I see no reason why the Germans alive TODAY—who played no role in those crimes—should receive a disparity of judgment by those who were fortunate enough to have ancestors who committed their crimes before the invention of modern recording equipment.

Germany is one of the world’s most peaceful, respectful, mature nation states. They've admitted their sins and advertise them in the hopes that the entire world would learn from their mistakes. How good is that!? How many of you do the same?

Would that my own nation did the same thing. Would that all others did.

Whatever lesson there was to learn, it appears they’ve learned it. That’s really all that matters. Germans should feel no more "shame" than any of us do today for what our ancestors did. That is: we should, but we should recognize where it belongs and that it shouldn't hang around our necks like an albatross.
