In what may be the surest sign yet that Kamala Harris has her sights set on another White House bid, the 2024 Democrat nominee sat for an interview with The New York Times in which she declared herself… a “historic figure” who “thousands and thousands” pay to see.

But in a sign that exactly nothing has changed since the last two times the former vice president tried – and failed – to run for president, she gave empty answers to any of the substantive questions that came her way.

On Tuesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Stu Burguiere, host of Stu Does America, to discuss the profile and inanity of another potential Harris campaign.

Empty Answers

In a profile titled “Kamala Harris Isn’t Ready to Be Written Off,” reporters Shane Goldmacher and Vincent Alban wonder about the currently unemployed politician’s political future. “She was seen for two decades as a future face of the Democratic Party,” the sub-headline reads. “Is she now suddenly a figure of its past?”

Between her book tour and the Times treatment, Harris certainly seems as determined as ever to keep her name in the national conversation. Former Democrat strategist and regular Megyn Kelly Show guest Dan Turrentine posted the piece on X and said her intentions are clear. “I have said it since late Spring, when I heard from two birdies in her orbit [Kamala Harris] badly wants to run again in 2028,” he wrote.

But can she? When she was asked about the future of the Democratic Party and whether it should veer more to the left à la New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani or center à la Virginia Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger, Harris reminded readers why 2024 didn’t go her way.

“We have to stand for the people,” she responded. “I know that sounds corny.”

Megyn said the answer is déjà vu all over again. “She’s still just as inane as ever… This is just empty. It’s utterly meaningless. It says absolutely nothing, which, I will grant you, is her signature,” she noted. “But… she hasn’t improved. That’s our takeaway.”

Burguiere said Harris’ problem is that “she’s not quick enough on her feet to come up with a real answer” and, more damning, “she doesn’t seem to really have thought about basic things about her campaign and her positions.”

In his view, Harris’ “survival instinct” seems to assume that “if she can kind of get through the moment and get off camera, everything will be fine,” but Megyn said the last election proved that was not the case. “CEOs of random companies sometimes do that, but not CEOs of the United States of America,” she said. “You cannot become a president with that ‘just don’t let anything stick to me’ [approach]. Eventually you have to answer real questions.”

‘Historic Figure’

But there was one topic Harris had a remarkably strong opinion on and it reveals quite a bit about the opinion she has of herself. She told the Times she no longer feels “burdened” by the need to achieve a place in history because she knows she already has.

“I understand the focus on ’28 and all that,” Harris said. “But there will be a marble bust of me in Congress. I am a historic figure like any Vice President of the United States ever was.”

And in case there is any concern that the Democratic Party is not particularly enthused by the prospect of another Harris campaign, the Times worked overtime to dispel the notion. “The writers pointed out that “female Barack Obama label” came as early as 2009 for Harris, back when she was still a district attorney. And while Harris seems “suddenly at risk of her time having passed,” the Times assured readers that “people aren’t just showing up for her,” they are “paying to see her.”

That allowed Harris herself to offer this gem about her book tour: “Thousands of people are coming to hear my voice. Thousands and thousands. Every place we’ve gone has been sold out.”

Megyn was not impressed. “First of all, who talks about themselves like that,” she wondered. “And I actually asked my team to take a look at the average size of the venues that she goes to. [It’s] 700, maybe 1,200 or 1,500. I’m sorry, but you should be able to fill that… as a former vice president… just by saying you’re going to swing by for two minutes. The fact that she is super proud she is filling theaters that seat 700 is embarrassing.”

Burguiere said it encapsulates what has gone wrong for the former VP. “This is someone who is trying to be a leader; supposed to be a leader of the nation. You’re supposed to have takes on major issues. That is supposed to be part of the reason why people want to come to you,” he concluded. “And she just has none of it.”
