A significant contingent of vocal anti-Ukraine posters had their views rooted in the belief that: 1) russia is going to win anyway; 2) Half the people in Ukraine actually support being part of Russia; and 3) We should just stay out of it because it's not our war and we don't really care who wins.
Are you still rooting for Russia to win? If so why?
Do you think we should help Russia defeat Ukraine? If so why?
Do you acknowledge that you were wrong about most of your assumptions, many of which were based on talking points fed to people like Joe Rogan?
Does it bother you that despite the US pulling nearly all military support, Ukraine was able to find more success on its own?
Was it a good or bad thing that we openly turned our back on our allies which in turn strengthened their unity and, in part, alienated us?

most "anti ukraine" people were only ever opposed to ukraine because of how openly and egregiously hostile they and their supporters have been to america and americans
ukraine could have had overwhelming support from regular americans all along if the comically evil and hostile jews and ukranians themselves could have exercised a modicum of self control, self awareness, and strategical thinking instead of acting utterly psychopathic toward americans at every opportunity

Yes. I thought it was mostly a lost cause and needless waste of life. After all this is a life or death fight for Russia. They need the plains closed and with pop decline this was their last chance to secure the border. I didn't expect the shift in warfare.
A couple of observations... Ukraine was clearly given the greenlight to attack Russian oil infrastructure. I believe that was mostly off limits before. There is also deeper and better targeting. That's clearly being supplied by the US. Basically we opened the playbook up on asymmetrical war there. Keep in mind this is about energy leverage and fucking over China. Keep that goal in mind and things make more sense.

This is nonsense. Targeting data is provided with US Intel and Palantir. Starlink provides connectivity for the drones. Even the tech in the drones is donated from allies.

First, there would be no war without US support. Do I have links for classified information being supplied in a live war?
You are entirely correct that this represents a major shift. Previously, the U.S. strongly opposed Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, but evidence and official statements from late 2025 and 2026 show that the U.S. has not only stopped restricting these attacks, but is actively supporting them.
## The Previous Stance: Biden Administration Opposition
During President Joe Biden's tenure, Washington staunchly opposed Ukraine targeting Russian oil refineries and energy logistics.
* **The Concern:** The primary fear was that disrupting Russian refining and energy capacity would trigger a spike in global energy prices, driving up inflation and gasoline costs in the U.S.
* **The Reality:** While Ukraine still carried out sporadic drone strikes using its own domestic technology, it did so under heavy diplomatic pressure from the U.S. to show restraint.
## The Shift: Intelligence Sharing & Direct Support
Under the Trump administration, the U.S. policy underwent a complete reversal, transforming from active opposition to quiet—and sometimes overt—collaboration.
### 1. Active Intelligence Assistance
According to reports from the *Financial Times* and regional security sources, the U.S. has been actively helping Ukraine plan and execute deep strikes on Russian energy targets.
* **Flight Pathing:** U.S. intelligence has reportedly provided Ukraine with data on optimal flight paths, altitudes, and timing to allow Ukrainian long-range drones to bypass Russian air defenses.
* **Target Vulnerabilities:** While Ukraine selects the specific facilities to hit, the U.S. has provided detailed intelligence on the structural vulnerabilities of those refineries to maximize the impact of the strikes.
### 2. Targeting the "Shadow Fleet"
In December 2025, reports emerged that the U.S. had given Ukraine the green light to target "shadow fleet" tankers transporting Russian crude oil in international waters—a move the previous administration strictly prohibited to protect maritime trade stability. The U.S. did not object to these strikes, viewing them as a viable way to degrade Russia’s sanction-evading oil logistics.
## Official U.S. Rhetoric: "An Escalation that Brings Peace Closer"
The U.S. position transitioned from behind-the-scenes intelligence support to public political justification.
During the NATO summit in July 2026, President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio openly addressed Ukraine's campaign against Russian oil refineries:
* **Secretary of State Marco Rubio** acknowledged that while the deep strikes are an escalation, they are changing the dynamics of the war by showing Russia cannot defend its own airspace. He noted: *"We hope this will create space for negotiations to end the war. It is an escalation, but at the same time, such an escalation could help bring it to a close."*
* **President Donald Trump** echoed this sentiment, agreeing that degrading Russia's energy economy is a necessary lever to "make them feel pain" and pressure Vladimir Putin into a diplomatic settlement.
> **The Result:** Driven by U.S. intelligence and tactical approval, Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries increased more than 10-fold in early 2026 compared to the previous year, taking a significant portion of Russia's domestic refining capacity offline.

"Are you still rooting for Russia to win? If so why?"
Yes, for the same reasons I always have. Ukrainian nationalists are assholes that deserve to lose and the whole thing is backed by the worst people on the planet (Soros types along with neocons). I've noticed that the more familiar people are with W. Ukrainians (the culture that is being extolled) the less they like them. Right now Ukraine is in a huge fight with Poland because Ukraine has decided to lionize the UPA/OUN (Nazis in WW2 that massacred hundreds of thousands of Poles, mostly women and children, along with Ukrainians that commited the crime of trying to save innocents and of course Jews and Russians. Also noteworthy was their particular sadism and brutality in how they murdered their victims).
"Do you think we should help Russia defeat Ukraine? If so why?"
A part of me would love this but in reality we should have stayed out of this from day 1. Of course, we helped create every aspect of this and if we didn't do that then this war wouldn't have happened in the first place. Our ideal foreign policy is that we should avoid these foreign wars but I guess if we have to pick a side then I'd rather we side with Russia.
"Do you acknowledge that you were wrong about most of your assumptions, many of which were based on talking points fed to people like Joe Rogan?"
Exactly 0 of my thoughts on Russia/Ukraine are based on anything Rogan or really any American has told me.
"Does it bother you that despite the US pulling nearly all military support, Ukraine was able to find more success on its own?"
At no point was Ukraine "on its own." The EU increased funding, existing funding from the Biden era is still going to Ukraine. They continue to get Starlink, intelligence sharing and weapons even if the weapons sometimes come through an indirect route.
"Was it a good or bad thing that we openly turned our back on our allies which in turn strengthened their unity and, in part, alienated us?"
Good. A lot of our "allies" are assholes too.
Question for you in return: thoughts on the big push to deport Ukrainian refugees of military age back to Ukraine so they can be conscripted?

By the way, if I were a regular American I can 100% describe what my reaction would be because it is my standard reaction to global affairs and stupid neocon bs. I would say "we should spend exactly $0 on this and stay out if it." And indeed, this is what most "pro-Russians" are actually saying.

You and your family have no connection to Ukraine, Ukrainian culture, ethnicity or identity.
None of you now or ever see yourselves as Ukrainian or identified as Ukrainian. You are "russian jews" who happened to live for a brief period of time in Ukraine.
I've watched you make countless intentional misstatements to the board in some effort to garner support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine and murder of innocent people.
I genuinely hope bad things happen to you.

Are you still rooting for Russia to win? If so why? - yes and for the same reasons as before. Ukrainians are shitheads. It's a shit culture, the language is Russian ebonics, and the only reason their "side" exists is because western propaganda decided they made for useful pawns.
Do you think we should help Russia defeat Ukraine? If so why? - Honestly no. I think we should stay the fuck out of it.
Do you acknowledge that you were wrong about most of your assumptions, many of which were based on talking points fed to people like Joe Rogan? - Lol no.
Does it bother you that despite the US pulling nearly all military support, Ukraine was able to find more success on its own? - No. See above. Stay. The fuck. Out of it.
Was it a good or bad thing that we openly turned our back on our allies which in turn strengthened their unity and, in part, alienated us? - America has no allies in Ukraine and never did.

Ukraine is fine but some of the Ukrainians I meet in the US tend to be quite odd and a little off putting. I chalk it up to prolonged war trauma but frankly most of the ones who could afford to be where I've met them are likely internationalists and not super entwined with the actual substance and sufferings of the Ukrainian peoples. Slavs in general in the US seem to have become quite grim but this is anecdotal and not representative of a sufficient sample size to make a decision based off of
Russia has a legitimate cultural claim to the region but politically there is nothing worth respecting there on the Russian end. Maybe with regime change, which is not likely to happen with any of the current Russian dissidents. Read quite a bit about the contemporary Russian political structure and was not at all impressed with what the UR coalition nor the apparatus that it serves has become. Putin is possibly losing his edge and there's no clear successor.
I side with Ukraine for now. Russia also appears to be out of deployable conscripts and war ready materiel and are resorting to dipping into their mid range ballistic missile stockpile to punish the Ukrainians without further troop deployments. Probably good news for Ukraine
