i grew up in mfh and this was the first moment in many years in miami where I felt "yeah, this is not NY yet, but it is getting really fucking close."
once brickell/downtown definitively jumps I-95 and stretches west (right now its mostly stretching north and south and abiding by i95 as a limit), i see no reason why this city won't race towards megacity status that only NYC has had.
its also, spiritually, overtaking LA as the place to move with lol-dreams of making it big as a "star". Obv in place of studios, the star machine is now the internet: OF for starlets and influencer-shit for dudes. Bumfuck pretty girls are not flocking to hollywood, they are flocking to Miami. Scummy guys who would have embarked for LA are now all coming here, and filming everything with a camera on a stick.
i do not begin to defend its reputation againts people who hate miami, but I do think the writing is on the wall - it will be a peer / rival city to ny and la in are lifetimes |
