I come from this class and watching my parents and their friends who tick most if not all of these boxes, yes, it seems like you can reasonably bet on making it into your 90s. Especially the women.
On the other hand, you can't rule out getting pawned by alzheimers or dementia or Parkinsons. My father has PSP, a variation of the latter, and unlike both his parents and all four of his grandparents, he will not make it to his 90s, let alone his 80s.
Life is crapshoot but you can certainly help the odds by doing what you outlined.
Will also comment that there comes a threshold where it seems less like living but a form of imprisonment. We envision being the sharp and fit 90 year old person but odds are equally good you'll be 90 and fading and only half there and every step is painful in its own way and you linger this way for the next five years increasingly incoherent and insensible. There's no calculator or lifestyle regime to aid you with tilting the odds either way. |
