Most of these podcasters look terrible which is why they benefited from an audio format in the first place. Why are Netflix and Spotify spending money on this?

It's nuts. I think a lot of execs at Netflix and Spotify see that people make money doing "podcasts" on YouTube, but don't realize that it's just a distribution channel that a lot of people use all the time (and across devices: phone, computer, TV.) So they think "oh wow people want to look at dumb ugly mugs talk about stupid bullshit on video" when in reality YouTube is just a good distribution platform.
I think Bill Simmons recently moved his biggest podcast to Netflix only from YouTube. And it's like, can you even do "audio only" on Netflix? Or am I supposed to sit and watch him talk into a mic? Wtf.

The insane part about Simmons on Netflix that they don't even try to produce it like a real talk show. Most of the guests are at home or in other studios so it looks terrible. Even the graphics are cheap looking and bizarre.
