My hunch is that it will not be. Facebook has not come up with a popular innovation since they incorporated the Twitter style status updates into the platform and incorporated the in browser AIM style chat.

The main risk from Facebook IMO is that it will copy ethereum/Tezos/Cardano/etc code and find a way to market it better to the mass userbase. However I question how successful they will be given how unutilized their existing Facebook Payments tool is.

Oh sure. Entrenched, bureaucratic companies frequently jump into innovative tech that risks cannbalizing existing revenue streams all the time!

the ones which stay alive do? a benefit of being a megacorp is that you don't have to be first all the time, e.g. Azure is the most rapidly growing platform in its space.

Ya, not saying it doesn't happen. I can't claim to spend a lot of time following the goings on of fucking Azure lol. But I would say history is not kind--they already have a big committee looking into it, probably will end up with a big team, and then there's the issue of whether it harms existing models. I'd bet against them being innovators and pushing the envelope. Would say the opposite about AMZN.
