it makes it harder for someone to bot-hack everything you own if you use the same password everywhere, but much easier to target specific individuals for this reason. people will tend to save the codes in unsecure places because keeping track of cold storage is a pain in the ass, and there's always a risk your cold storage can fail anyway (in which case you're boned).

They’ll ask you to email a passport photo selfie and then they’ll temporarily disable your 2fa so that you can reset it.
