volume is how many units of an asset have exchanged hands over unit time.
market cap is calculated by the current market price * the total units of asset. here is the important part: the current market price is whatever most people are presently willing to pay per unit asset. ** and that can change drastically even with very low volume. **
it only takes a small mob of buy tards (e.g. xoxo and zilliqa) to run up a price on a huge market cap coin. (lol jk i love xoxo and zil)
