Will you raise kids there?
What do you miss about US?
How old are your parents and how often do you see them?

They have NOT looked at it objectively. They are getting swept aside by American tech and WANT to be competitive, but can't because they do NOT want to be American because they've been deriding it for no other reason than that's what they do.
It's like the chess nerd saying, "I don't want to go to prom anyways cause prom sucks", cause he couldn't get a girl cause he didn't work out, develop his social skills.

I've had an alright time in London. Living in Paris for the year a while back and you're 1000% correct. Very clannish and not inclusive. Really difficult to make friends that aren't other foreigners. They'll be nice to you, polite, but you'll almost never be accepted by them as a true friend.
I know some ppl living and working in Amsterdam and it's the same thing. Super nice to you, but very very hard to make a connection with someone and be invited into a group. All the American expats in Amsterdam kinda huddle around each other but it can get really isolating apparently.
It also helps when you speak their language.

Shorter hours. They don't pursue insight. They are professional as far as modeling is concerned, etc, that is doing stuff that has been done before.
But they don't pursue thinking outside the box, and can't connect the dots. It the line is already drawn, yes they'll do it well in a decent amount of time but won't try and go the extra mile (spend extra hours) to seek out insight.

Have you noticed that German women use pretty provocative photos of themselves for Linkedin? If so, why is that? I recall resumes in Europe used to (maybe still do?) have headshots.
Does being an attorney feel like it has any relative prestige over laypeople there or is it just like any other field of study? In the US proles still seem to think being a lawyer is wealthy/interesting based on how they've viewed the profession portrayed in television and film. We also get attorney client privilege, can obnoxiously use the esq suffix, etc.

Do you plan to take out a mortgage in your country? This is one of the greatest advantages as a dual citizen bro.
Please describe preferred vacation spots to prove your EU perspective.
& fav country for brothels? Yes, we get it, you’re married, but this is Europe

Yes I do plan on taking out a mortgage. My wife will be taking advantage of this with my hard earned $$ :/ My favorite country is Italy by far - I love history and Italy is a bubble of different histories "trapped" in time. And southern Italy is very different from the North.
This makes sense as Italy was a union of very independent kingdoms that fairly recently joined together. The regions maintain their flair and independence to this day. Visiting Italy is like visiting totally different countries depending on the region/ city you go to.
The warmth of the Italians who are warm is incredible! I'ld hate to work there though!
I really don't do all that as I have an infant and etc, etc.

Excellent question! In short, yes, but not at the same level. You won’t find a KKR or Renaissance or Sequoia but you’ll find the 2nd or third tier (By US standards) of those types of firms in Europe. But then you run into what I’m experiencing. The comparable 2nd tier and 3rd tiers in the US are more competitive by applicant pool whereas in Europe the quality is not there but you get the job because you knew someone, not cause you started a company and had an exit. And there are less roles of course. So, even though the people admitted as a percentage may be the same the quality at those firms is shit.
IBD May be an exception to this, but I doubt it.

What I’m saying it’s definitely half a tier lower if not lower. And if you compare 2nd tier to 2nd tier, the 2nd tiers in the US are as good as the top tiers or better and totally better than the 2nd tiers in Europe. And on top of it they hamstring themselves by their lackluster leadership.
IBD is probably comparable at the median; they don’t have the outliers in terms of productivity you’ll have in the US.
Oxbridge is definitely respected; HEC is respected enough in the right circles. MBA overall is unknown. Apart from HBS, not seeing other MBAs open doors where you’re invited to join the club. I have an M7 MBA and yes it did help me get this role, but for the most part, not sure it helps as much as it does in the US.

One reason why Germans may work less hard is that it's much harder to fire them. My online German teacher was telling me about this last night- there are all kinds of protections against getting fired even for cause (e.g. multiple warnings required) and the employee usually gets a huge severance package (Abfindung).
That's just with regular workers- a public school teacher is "verbeamtet" and thus has basically the same level of job security as a tenured university professor has in the US. From the very first day of work.

You sound like a horrible person and I feel sorry for any poor bastards that work under you. The idea that you care so much about your pointless rent seeking “career” than the chill attitude and shorter hours of your job is fucking abhorrent. You are clearly jewish and lack any hobbies besides usury.
Go take a work in the park and enjoy your free time. There’s a hell of a lot more to life than working.

Will write a longer post on the nuances, but in general they envy the US but can’t make the necessary changes to be competitive with the US (by following the US example) since they’ve been deriding the US forever.
They adore US tech, but don’t want to do the necessary sacrifices to achieve exceptionalism. They’re really evil in that they want to reap the benefits by taxing tech companies without putting in the effort.
edit:
France: General public either hate/ love Americans.
Professionals: Hierarchical and you can't be the brilliant maverick at work unless you were hired to be the brilliant maverick in the first place and graduated from Paris X (polytechnique, etc). However, if you accept the hierarchy, can be very supportive, and collegiate!
UK: Most professionals want to clock in- clock out as the poster below mentioned. Guys from elite schools know a lot about shit that doesn't matter and think they're smart. So they'll know who the first PM of Moldova was (so general knowledge which is a proxy for SOUNDING smart and being "worldly" is there), but can't grind and bring to market like Americans can.
Germans: More connections based than I thought. The kids of Mittelstand families have been hanging out for generations and their kids are also worldly. So these guys can lubricate business via their Kabaal, but as a result they can't handle mavericks. Why let Franz, who's from E. Germany come up with an idea that's high risk but super disruptive to their social/ economic class. Less out of the box thinkers as well.
Quite frankly, Euros can't think out of the box, let alone scale like Americans.

True. $55k in Aberdineshire would be fine.

What's amazing to me is the pay gap b/w US and UK lawyers. We do deserve more money - lots more dogshit work product out here etc. But I have the same salary as a UK lawyer 10 years my senior. Bro almost quit when I first joined over it. And you're not joking at the +100% US payscale lol. I can't believe people would put up with being a lawyer and accept so little. £80k is a fine lawyer salary here.

I can promise you Germans don't envy the US. Ok, maybe if you're talking about an investment banker in Germany envying the salaries investment bankers make in the US, that's fine and probably accurate.
But there's not 1 German in 100 who thinks that American society as a whole is anything but greatly inferior to German society as a whole.
And having lived both places, I can say they are correct. Just on a basic level, half of Germany doesn't hate the other half like is the case here. How can you have a halfway decent country if one half hates the other half and vice versa? You can't.

My point was in reference to the top 20% (whatever that number is, and representative of xoxo's general population?) in UMC professions, and who take "joy" from the quality of work, etc. I work in high finance so it's quite visible there. If you're talking about Garbage Collector Jan, then life is probably better in Germany.
I am not making a point about politics, and living for the average Joe, etc.

For work only?
London, Dublin, Amsterdam.
Very nuanced question - would definitely include cities in Germany if you work for a US based firm in Germany.

1. Dublin is cold as fuck and terrible weather. Why would you move there? Spend a few months there, for sure. I would never move there Nov - March.
you said anything.
2. How long will 2nd lockdown last.

Don't believe the irish bullshit. They are DESPERATE to believe that they are wealthier and more sophisticated than 'the brits'.
The gdp stats are meaningless and even the adjusted figures don't take into account col. All the jobs are in dublin but prices are painfully high by uk standards, at least as bad as london.
