The Baby Boomers were a huge generation, and because of improving healthcare they suffered from lower levels of infant mortality. It was a lot, but the US economy in the mid to late 20th century was prosperous enough to support them.
Then their children, the Millennials, came along. Also a huge generation historically. But society isn't as broadly prosperous as it used to be. And so now you're seeing lots of Millennials dying from drug overdoses, suicides, and other diseases of despair. And record low birthrates, so that these family lines are dying out even if the individual Millennials are still alive.
Is evolution just culling this group to a more sustainable size? |
