interesting, the media articles I read mentioned nothing about why it came before scotus...but this ruling prevents the Dems (and their tax return industry donors) from reinstalling the mandate/penalty, which is good, because that, and the tax return implications of it, was a major flaw in obamacare

I’m a little surprised it wasn’t 9-0. The ‘tax’ seemed clearly severable from the act. It’s hard to eliminate it for three years, see everything go on unchanged, and claim it was a necessarily vital part of the legislation. The only thing GOP was hinging on was that Dems argued it was vital in the first challenge to the act.
