When I want to hit a lower, shorter tee shot into the wind, I just choke down on my driver and hit a low cut with a 3/4 swing. Easy peasy, lots of roll out and perfect for tight fairways. Only time I'll use 3 wood off the tee is if it's a shorter dogleg left where I want to work the ball right-to-left.
I have an old Hogan muscleback 2 iron I'll carry occasionally just for kicks. Love the feel of that club, but it hits it very low and only carries about 205 due to the lack of spin. |

I have more of a flat, sweeping club path so I really get along with fairway woods. If you’re taking a steeper attack angle then I think driving irons are a better option.
