I'm not so bullish that the old conference rooms are suddenly going to become public parks or whatever you're suggesting.
Anyways, my larger point is that the entire eco-system of Manhattan is based on people working out of those skyscrapers between Battery Park and Central Park. The restaurants, the retail, the services - it is all built on that assumption - as are the residential buildings that surround it. If the offices go, the rest of it dies with it.
You may be right that this is a forest fire and new life will be re-born from it. My point is that for a long time its going to look like a forest that went throough a fucking forest fire. |

Redeveloping office space for residential use is extremely expensive.
And if the community can gather, so can employees. So I don't see how that option matters. |
