cousin choosing t100 undergrad ($100k overall debt) over cheap state school

Date: August 3rd, 2021 11:51 AM Author: Brindle Dilemma He got a small scholarship from the school but will easily end up with over $150k in debt. The state school is similarly ranked. He said he wants to try a new city and wants to be a poli sci shithead and go to law school, lol. I told him to go to the state school and study something more practical (stem, business). He got mad at me and said that he always looked up to me and that I'm just sour about life. Part of the problem is that I can't be brutally honest with him. He got a 1280 SAT after like 300 trillion tries and a couple of years of courses. He's not going to be competitive for an elite law school. He'll be heavily indebted after going to some shitbag law school.
America imbues these kids with such ridiculous idealism and there's no way to fight it. He's actually very conservative too, so this isn't someone going on some shitlib international public interest law crusade. |

I know he hates standardized tests so I told him the LSAT is brutal compared to the SAT and that law schools only care about your score and that they're a whole lot less "wholistic" than undergrads when it comes to admissions. they answer to school didn't take is always "moar skool". this generation has an extreme bimodal distribution. it's either MOAR SKOOL ALL DA TIME or fuck skool. i think the latter will own the future tbh. and by that i mean live the more fulfilling life. you can always opt out. gen xers and millennials ate the MOAR SKOOL MYTH whole. better to at least try to tell the younger generation so at least they are on notice and can mitigate loss. |
