Date: September 8th, 2021 4:14 PM Author: Heady twinkling uncleanness 3 hours ago A Juror Worries She Can’t Afford to Serve By Sara Randazzo One of the 12 jurors chosen to hear the Elizabeth Holmes trial told the court Wednesday morning that she found out over the weekend her employer won't pay her for the months of jury service and that remaining in the case would be a financial hardship.
U.S. District Judge Edward Davila pressed the juror, a recent high-school graduate working in customer service, to see if she could switch to an evening shift to be able to remain on the jury. Speaking to the lawyers and judge outside of the presence of the rest of the jury, the juror said she needs to keep working to support her mother.
The trial is expected to last more than three months.
Judge Davila said he would wait to decide on dismissing her until she could speak with her employer later in the day. The jury of five women and seven men has five alternates.
