From what I've read SSRIs are flame and the proposed mechanism for why they work has been debunked.

The neurotransmitter hypothesis has lost credence but the belief now is that SSRIs increase neurogenesis in the hippocampus

It may not be placebo, but SSRIs are clearly not particularly effective.

Conclusion: All these studies reported that exercise and standard antidepressant treatments were equally effective.

I went on them for a few months. Just felt kind of numb and didn’t care about anything. Like the world was just happening to me and I was observing it. Pretty lame.

made me a little more anxious at first, some night sweats, but then pretty normal. not sure how or why, but high dose (150mg) really helped with my generalized anxiety.

maybe 3 weeks to a month. but it was subtle. you don't really "feel" anything working. i felt normal, but noticed I wasn't getting the same level of fight or flight anxiety in certain situations that I'd have in the past. and my come downs and depressive periods would be far less severe.

Two different periods of time. Took them for about a year in law school. Didn't feel i needed them anymore, so I quit on my own.

Started again two and a half years ago for severe anxiety and depression. weaning myself off of them again right now. Down from 150 -> 50mg. don't want to be stuck on these forever, and want to see how i do with just diet and exercise.
