cardio or lifting

lifting is when I can read my phone or magazines.

cardio lately has been swimming or versaclimber at home, the latter of which I watch tv while doing.

I also rock climb twice a week, but I devote my full attention to that when I am doing it

The greatest feeling you can get in a gym or the most satisfying feeling you can get in the gym is the pump. Let's say you train your biceps, blood is rushing in to your muscles and that's what we call the pump. Your muscles get a really tight feeling like your skin is going to explode any minute and its really tight and its like someone is blowing air into your muscle and it just blows up and it feels different, it feels fantastic. It's as satisfying to me as cumming is, you know, as in having sex with a woman and cumming. So can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym; I'm getting the feeling of cumming at home; I'm getting the feeling of cumming backstage; when I pump up, when I pose out in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night. It's terrific, right? So you know, I am in heaven.

God, I wish I had this feeling.

I've never had a "runner's high" either. I feel the pump in my muscles, but it just makes me feel weak and horrible.

It's great. Feels great. Trains self-discipline, and extending and pushing past pain thresholds. Nice, quiet, time to yourself. Makes you look better and feel better. Usually hot chicks to ogle at, which gets the blood and Test flowing and makes lifting easier. Can listen to audiobooks or watch sports or whatever on your phone.

Once you get in a certain zone, it’s 1800000. I feel like a lazy piece of trash if I don’t get a run and ab workouts in before work. Muscle issue in my glute today so I couldn’t run and I feel gross. A good playlist can make a huge difference too.

CR. Cardio is so key to getting that feel of flushing/sweating out toxins. If I don't get a certain amount of miles in per week, I get to feeling really physically gross and depressed.

Walk where it's hilly and naturally beautiful. You want to feel the burn in your legs, not so much that it discourages, but just enough that it inspires you to get back out there.

A walk on the sidewalk in the suburbs not inspiring.

It's hard to push yourself on a bike the same way you do when running, especially on an exercise bike. I wish I could still run, but I can't thanks to injuries and disease (bone cancer). Key for me on the bike is to always get at least one good hill in per ride and a minimum of 100 miles/week at a good tempo.

I'm old, but the radiation treatments on my tibia (I had Ewing's as a kid - https://www.webmd.com/cancer/ewings-sarcoma) and years of sports finally caught up with me. I trained for and ran a marathon in my early 30's and that apparently was the breaking point for my leg (I was running 55-65 m/wk). After that, anytime I put any kind of repetitive load bearing/impact stress on that leg, it would swell up like a balloon for three days and cause a ton of pain and distress. I went to physical therapy and saw a lymphatic specialist and they were like "sorry, bro, you're fukked. don't run if you want to keep this leg." Since then, I've just been on the bike.

Yes and yes. Other than two years of treatment, being bald as a kid, and in and out of the hospital and school, I've been pretty lucky. Despite my messed up leg (1 inch shorter, weaker bone and couldn't build muscle), I still lettered in basketball, baseball and golf at a big public high school. Married and have two kids now. Leg is kind of a mess now that I'm older and I have to monitor my heart health since I have some heart failure due to high dose anthracycline (doxorubicin) chemo treatments. But all in all, life is good.

My mom does an hour of ten minutes of cardio a day (she’s missed like 10 days in the last seven years and that was because of a knee surgery). She’s 61 and has about two gray hairs at any given time. Family friends literally don’t believe she doesn’t dye her hair. Her younger sister is entirely gray. Aerobic workouts definitely lengthen telomeres.

weird, its usually the best part of my day. maybe that only speaks to the misery of my working hours.

there are no pretenses, no games, no bullshit. Its an exchange that is entirely upfront and honest. I push my body past comfort and I receive a healthier, better body. The small accomplishments are measurable, and again there is no lying about progress or lack thereof.

it is the one exchange in the entire vitality department that is untouched by fraud.

I love it

have to find things that engage your mind while working out. yoga, bike riding, martial arts/jkd, tennis and to some extent running have all 'worked out' for me. lifting bores the shit out of me

it's quite literally one of my favorite things to do.

i would say try to find a linear progression program that you will stick to--tbh, everything is just some version of starting strength so just do that. once you can go into your book and see the gains day over day you will like it since you will see yourself getting stronger.

or, try to find an activity. jiujitsu or martial arts. triathlon club. swimming. hiking. crossfit. whatever.

activity exercise is the only thing i can do consistently but eventually i will be too old to play soccer especially if i don't take off like 40 lb ASAP.

the "problem" with activity exercise is that while it's better to do something than nothing, all you are doing really is getting better at THAT activity and your body adjusts to become more efficient at it in a way that doesn't have a huge knockoff in the rest of your life.

you ever see middle aged former athletes and they're out of shape but still able to kick ass at their sport? maradonna, ronaldino, etc? that explains why. muscle memory, 10,000 reps, etc. i see older jj black belts with bellies who can beat the dog shit out of just about anybody. that's the efficiency i'm talking about. when you're a novice is when you really make all the gains. i figure you might as well do an activity that has a specific goal of better life results. ie--get stronger or whatever goal.

Yeah even my game has adjusted for efficiency to compensate for being old, fat, slow. I used my body more, take fewer touches etc. It's good cardio exercise because we play for 2 hours but I'm not really forced to push myself or be uncomfortable.
