china has something like 30-40% of all factories shutting down production because of energy shortages. the chinese government has told producers to secure energy reserves for the winter "at any cost", which has resulted in them even having to eat crow and buy coal from australia again.
certain industries in china - like magnesium production, which is EXTREMELY energy intensive and basically only done in china - have completely stopped. you need magnesium for a ton of stuff, including vehicle and steel production. china has halted all exports and are hoarding the stuff. again, outside of 1 tiny company in salt lake city, there is ZERO magnesium production outside china |
